Pouncey To Test Knee In Limited Fashion Today

Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports Thursday on Twitter that Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey will do individual drills today in practice to test the right knee that he injured on the first offensive play in the loss to the Tennessee Titans last week. Pouncey said that he will be able to tell a lot from today\’s workout.

Pouncey worked in the pool on Wednesday and told the media afterwards that he hasn\’t ruled himself out yet for the Sunday night game against the Cincinnati Bengals. “We’ll see what happens as the week progresses, but the plan now is to take it day to day and hope for the best,” Pouncey said on Wednesday. “I’m doing everything I can to get ready to play.”

When the Steelers center works today he reportedly will wear a knee brace and he also admitted on Wednesday that it is going to take a couple weeks before his knee gets all the way healthy.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said on Tuesday during his press conference that Pouncey would be questionable this week. The Steelers signed free agent guard Jacques McClendon to the practice squad on Tuesday to provide an extra body to take reps in practice this week as Doug Legursky and John Malecki both figure to be getting plenty of reps at center with Pouncey unable to practice.

While the game is still a few days away, it is a good bet that Pouncey will likely wind up not playing Sunday night. It is expected that Malecki will be promoted from the practice squad on Saturday prior to the team leaving for Cincinnati.
