Steelers Injured Player Outlook Heading Into Week 8

The Pittsburgh Steelers came out of the Sunday night win over the Cincinnati Bengals without any new injuries that are considered serious and that is good news based on how many starters were down heading into the game.

Head coach Mike Tomlin said during his post game press conference that reserve linebacker Adrian Robinson (concussion) was being evaluated for a concussion that he suffered late in the second half and that safety Will Allen (ankle) rolled an ankle during the game as well. Tomlin did not give any indication that either injury was serious.

Missing the game injured Sunday night were center Maurkice Pouncey (knee), tackle Marcus Gilbert (ankle), safety Troy Polamalu (calf), running back Rashard Mendenhall (Achilles), running back Isaac Redman (ankle), and linebacker Chris Carter (hamstring).

Gilbert and Polamalu both figure to miss the next game against the Washington Redskins. Pouncey was able to work Thursday and Friday of last week in practice on a limited basis, so there is a chance that he might be ready by Sunday.

The way that running back Jonathan Dwyer played Sunday night against the Bengals might very well tempt the Steelers to sit both Mendenhall and Redman one more week, but if either can practice fully this upcoming week, you have to think that at least one of them will suit up. The Steelers will likely only dress four running backs at most for that game, so the practice reports should tell us everything we need to know concerning that situation.

Carter is once again battling a hamstring injury. He missed several games as a rookie because one, so he figures to be questionable right now heading into this week.

The Steelers currently have an open spot on their practice squad following the Saturday promotion to the 53 man roster of offensive lineman John Malecki. Defensive end Corbin Bryant, who was released on Saturday to make room for Malecki, might be the player signed back to the practice squad on Tuesday to fill the open spot.
