Tomlin Optimistic That Polamalu, Harrison, Mendenhall & Sylvester Will All Play Against Eagles

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin met the media on Tuesday in preparation for the upcoming game Sunday at Heinz Field against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Tomlin opened with an injury update and he said safety Troy Polamalu (calf), linebacker James Harrison (knee), running back Rashard Mendenhall (knee), and linebacker Stevenson Sylvester (knee) were all full participants in Monday\’s practice and called it a “safe assessment” that all four players will play Sunday.

“Based on what I am looking at on how we worked yesterday I think that is a safe assessment,” said Tomlin when asked if they will play Sunday. “We will watch these guys as we proceed throughout the week. All guys have performed well and were able to get through practice and we’re optimistic that they’re going to be full participants.”

Harrison remains the biggest question mark of the four players at this point and Tomlin said that it will depend on how the linebacker responds as the week progresses. “He had some intense workouts,” Tomlin said of Harrison during the bye week.

“If he plays well and plays like James is capable of playing, obviously he\’s an asset,” Tomlin added.

Tackle Marcus Gilbert (groin) was the only player not to practice on Monday, but Tomlin said he expects that he will practice on Wednesday.

I will wait until Friday before getting too excited about James, but it appears Harrison’s demise has been greatly overstated.
