Ben Roethlisberger Feels No Pressure To Play With Birth Of First Baby Two Weeks Away

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was on the Dan Patrick Show Friday morning to talk about how the season has gone so far as well as the upcoming birth of his baby boy.

Patrick asked Roethlisberger during the interview if he feels any pressure to play when his wife is delivering a baby as he has already said he’s going to be by her side when it happens.

“None,” Roethlisberger said. “There’s no question what I’m going to do. I made that statement more than a month ago, and I wouldn\’t say it drew heat, but people talked about, and I have 100% support from my teammates, my coaches and Mr. Rooney, and everyone felt that was the right thing to do.”

Patrick then asked Roethlisberger how hard is it to make that decision when you factor in that he is the leader of the team and essentially making an individual choice.

“I still don\’t think that its that tough because I\’m saying that these guys are my family, this team is my family, but I also have a family at home.” said Roethlisberger. “So we always put our family first and they all understand, and they would all tell me, \’Go be with your other family.\’

Roethlisberger was asked if he would the baby\’s name will be, and of course he didn\’t, but he did let it slip that the birth will take place in the next two weeks

The Steelers face the Baltimore Ravens a week from Sunday and you can bet that if he ends having to miss that game, several in the fan base will give him grief for it. They shouldn\’t, but they will. Hopefully it doesn\’t come that, but if it does, I fully support his decision to be present for the birth, even if it means missing a game.
