Ben Roethlisberger Feels No Pressure To Play With Birth Of First Baby Two Weeks Away

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was on the Dan Patrick Show Friday morning to talk about how the season has gone so far as well as the upcoming birth of his baby boy.

Patrick asked Roethlisberger during the interview if he feels any pressure to play when his wife is delivering a baby as he has already said he’s going to be by her side when it happens.

“None,” Roethlisberger said. “There’s no question what I’m going to do. I made that statement more than a month ago, and I wouldn\’t say it drew heat, but people talked about, and I have 100% support from my teammates, my coaches and Mr. Rooney, and everyone felt that was the right thing to do.”

Patrick then asked Roethlisberger how hard is it to make that decision when you factor in that he is the leader of the team and essentially making an individual choice.

“I still don\’t think that its that tough because I\’m saying that these guys are my family, this team is my family, but I also have a family at home.” said Roethlisberger. “So we always put our family first and they all understand, and they would all tell me, \’Go be with your other family.\’

Roethlisberger was asked if he would the baby\’s name will be, and of course he didn\’t, but he did let it slip that the birth will take place in the next two weeks

The Steelers face the Baltimore Ravens a week from Sunday and you can bet that if he ends having to miss that game, several in the fan base will give him grief for it. They shouldn\’t, but they will. Hopefully it doesn\’t come that, but if it does, I fully support his decision to be present for the birth, even if it means missing a game.

If he has to miss any game I hope it would be the Browns game that is sandwiched in between the Ravens games. But here’s to hoping that little Ben shows up on the Monday after the Steelers smack the Ravens on Sunday night.

Hopefully they induce her or schedule a c-section before the game. And Little Ben gets ro see his dad throw for 3 TDs and 250 yards the Ravens.

No one who is a true Steeler fan would have a problem with BB missing the Ravens or Browns as we always say next man up the standard is the standard n BB congrats family always first!

I must admit, there is a part of me that wishes Ben to miss the Ravens game. I think they will take some shots at him for injury sake. They know that if he is hurt the rest of the year, they have a shot at the SB just like anyone else. The Ravens don’t care about the fine, they want him off the field….for both games. Ironically, I still think that team is bad enough on D, that we could still beat them, assuming Road Joe shows up.

Family first. Congrats Ben and may the baby be 100% healthy and protected not by an O-line by but by love of one’s parents.

Lefty or Batch can dispatch the Ravens if the D shows up. Will be the first game Polamalu/Harrison/Woodley will be all together. Ravens are declining and injured, Steelers on the rise with D playing better, players coming back for depth on O-line and Defense, running game coming along… Not the end of the world if Ben is unavailable. Odds are it will not be an issue. Think if the kid comes before the game, Ben will be hyped.

I hope Ashley has the baby before the game. I’d hate to face the Ravens without him, even if the game is at home.
