Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin updated the status of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger during his Tuesday press conference and said that he has been diagnosed with a a right shoulder sprain. Tomlin specifically called it a “SC” sprain.
Tomlin would go on to say that Roethlisberger, who left in the third quarter of the Monday night game against the Kansas City Chiefs, is being evaluated today and that his-status is questionable for the upcoming game Sunday night against the Baltimore Ravens.
Tomlin said that he does not think that the injury was an aggravation of any previous injury.
SC stands for Sternoclavicular joint injury whinch entails ligament trauma to the joint connecting the breastbone [sternum] and the collarbone [clavicle]). It is an uncommon injury.
How is SC joint injury treated?
Most SC joint injuries are subluxations (in which the joint is partially separated) rather than dislocations (in which the joint surfaces are completely displaced and remain unopposed). Treatment is influenced by this difference.
