Mike Tomlin Press Conference – Chiefs – Tuesday – Week 10

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin met the media on Tuesday for his weekly press conference and talked a little about the win Sunday over the New York Giants and the upcoming game Monday night against the Kansas City Chiefs in addition.

Tomlin said that the team performed well in all three phases Sunday. He noted that the improved running game over the course of the last month has made the offense tougher to defend. On defense Tomlin said that he likes the direction that the third down defense is moving in, but cautions that there is still room for improvement in that area. On special teams they are not shooting themselves in the foot as often in the return game which is providing returns that are assets.

Tomlin went on to deliver the weekly injury report heading into the game and you can read that here.

After talking about the Chiefs on both sides of the ball, Tomlin took questions from the media.

Tomlin noted that the familiarity that offensive coordinator Todd Haley has with the personnel of the Chiefs may help some, but that it does not change the way that they put their plan together for this game. Tomlin said that Haley will not stand up this week and give any speeches in regard to the Chiefs personnel. He might provide a nugget or two this week, but that is about it, according to Tomlin.

Tomlin is happy with the play of Will Allen, who has been filling in for the injured Troy Polamalu at safety. Tomlin called him a deliberate run force guy with good range and is consistently physical. Tomlin also said that he is position flexible and that they\’re are not doing anything different with Ryan Clark because Allen is in there.

The audio of the press conference is below and I will add more talking points shortly.
