Ravens Injury Report: CB Jimmy Smith Ruled Out On Thursday

The Thursday injury report for the Baltimore Ravens is now out as they continue to prepare to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday night at Heinz Field.

Cornerback Jimmy Smith (abs) has been ruled out for the Sunday night game after undergoing successful surgery to repair a sports hernia in Philadelphia on Thursday.

With Smith now ruled out, cornerback Corey Graham will likely start opposite Cary Williams, and second-year cornerback Chykie Brown will most likely get time as the nickel.

Guard Marshal Yanda (ankle) returned on Thursday to work on a limited basis after not practicing on Wednesday.

Wide receiver Jacoby Jones (ankle), defensive end Pernell McPhee (thigh), defensive tackle Haloti Ngata (shoulder), wide receiver Torrey Smith (chest), and guard Bobbie Williams (ankle) were all limited for a second straight day on Thursday.

Defensive tackle Terrence Cody (arm), and safety S Christian Thompson (thigh) were both added to the Thursday injury after being limited.

Safety Sean Considine (knee/chest), linebacker Dannell Ellerbe (finger), safety Bernard Pollard (chest), running back Ray Rice (toe), safety Ed Reed (shoulder/leg/neck), linebacker Terrell Suggs (ankle), and linebacker Courtney Upshaw (shoulder) all practiced fully for a second straight day.

  • SteelerDave

Obviously the big injury being discussed this week is Ben. However, the Ravens are a beat-up team – perhaps more so overall than we are.

I think Ngata being less than 100% is what can win this game for us, even with LongWindUp Leftwich at QB. We need to dominate running the ball up the gut for 4+ a pop and we win. Is Mendy the best for that task? No. I give my nod to Dwyer this week.

  • Smith being out helps us, as it is one more person less able to jump routes when Leftwich telegraphs them with his long windup. But I agree with SteelerDave overall, their front 7 being banged up is the big factor, as that battle is where this game will be won or lost.
