Saints Sign Former Steelers G Ryan Lee To Their Practice Squad On Tuesday

The Pittsburgh Steelers released undrafted free agent guard Ryan Lee from their practice squad last week and on Tuesday the New Orleans Saints officially signed the Furman product to their practice squad.

Lee had been on the Steelers practice squad all season after a strong preseason showing at left guard, albeit on the third team.

Normally, losing young players off of the practice squad are things that do not bother me that much, but if you read this site through the preseason you know that I thought Lee possibly had some long-term potential. Perhaps even as early as 2013.

It would have been nice to see Lee get some work with the second team during the preseason to see if he could have handled the competition, but obviously the coaching staff thought different.

In somewhat related news, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers released guard/tackle Chris Scott from their practice squad on Tuesday. Scott, the Steelers 5th round draft pick in 2010, was with the Steelers through the preseason. The Steelers currently have two spots open on their own practice squad and it will be interesting to see if they give Scott a call to fill one of those spots, or if they have washed their hands of him completely. Scott did not have a good showing during the preseason.

Thought the same myself Dave, is what is I guess.

  • Kevin Gobleck

We should sign him directly to our roster

  • SteelerFanInMD

    Is Chris Kemoeatu still available?

  • Guest

Wait…I didn’t think teams could sign another team’s practice squad players unless they placed that player on the active roster for a number of weeks? If the Saints can just sign a player off of Pitt’s practice squad and place him on their own practice squad, what is stopping Pitt from signing the player right back??

  • Shannon Stephenson

I hate to see that…I really liked Lee

  • JT

Because the Steelers released Lee. He didn’t have a job when he got signed to the Saints.

  • I think Lee is the biggest blow, followed by Gilreath then Clemons.

  • Mikey Hoje

Kemoeatu busy eating Hawaiian plate lunch, last I heard.

  • JT

Clemons isn’t a blow at all IMO. He was a project who showed nothing in camp or preseason.

were in a dead zone on the OL and WR and every other team is gobling-up our practice squad…time to get Kemo and and Hiney back…

  • Which is why I put him last. Personally, I like Moye over Clemons anyway.

  • steeltown

I knew this would happen, unbelievable, at the time we had Clemons and
Moye on the practice squad, as well as Gilreath and Burress on the
active roster all in addition to our starting WR’s, why did they release
Ryan Lee and not Moye or Clemons? Moye could have been released and
resigned later if needed. Ridiculous, Lee was a nice prospect

  • steeltown

Please no, Kemo and Colon would penalize us back to the stone age

  • Maurice_hill_district

Dead zone also at QB, so r u sayin sign Kordell too. He’s available & played with Plaxico here. 🙂

  • Maurice_hill_district

Agreeing. Could he be worse than sonofBeatchm on our 53.

  • steeltown

Still mad about this.. they couldve released Moye or Victorian from the practice squad, instead of Lee, and been able to sign them back later if needed
