Steelers Also Have WR Derrick Williams In For Visit On Tuesday

It will be a busy visitor day for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday as free agent wide receiver Derrick Williams is also making a free agent visit, according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Williams was with the team through training camp and the preseason, but released prior to the start of the season.

We passed along the word on Monday that wide receiver Plaxico Burress would be in on Tuesday for a workout along with with free agent quarterbacks Brian Hoyer and Matt Kafka.

The Steelers will most likely sign one quarterback and one wide receiver today because of the rib injuries suffered by quarterback Byron Leftwich and wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery in the loss Sunday night to the Baltimore Ravens.

Dave- Do you think someone is going to IR to free the roster spot?

Lefty will probably go on IR to free up the QB spot. As for the WR, not sure if Cotchery will go on IR, or if they’ll find someone else to cut to make the spot. If Jerricho looks like he could be back in a few weeks, they probably won’t want to lose him to IR. On the other hand, Lefty and Batch are basically the same, so they can IR Lefty and just use Batch as #2 the rest of the way once Ben comes back.

This doesn’t say much for Clemons does it? Looks like they’re overlooking the guy that they drafted and has been on the practice squad all year, to sign someone off the street.
