Steelers Injury Report: Roethlisberger, Woodley, Leftwich & Adams All Out As Expected

The Friday injury report for the Pittsburgh Steelers is now out as they prepare to take ion the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

Despite trying to throw this past week and give hope that there was a chance that he would play in Baltimore, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder, rib) was ruled out by head coach Mike Tomlin on Friday. Roethlisberger is reportedly still having problems with arm strength and hopefully another full week of healing will allow him to be ready for the game next week against the San Diego Chargers at Heinz Field.

Also ruled out on Friday, as expected, were linebacker LaMarr Woodley (ankle) and tackle Mike Adams (ankle). Jason Worilds will start in the place of Woodley at left outside linebacker, while rookie Kelvin Beachum will start at right tackle in place of Adams. Quarterback Byron Leftwich (ribs) was also ruled out on Friday after failing to practice all week.

Wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery (ribs) and guard Willie Colon (knee) are both questionable on the Friday injury report. Colon worked on Friday after sitting out on Wednesday and Thursday and the hope is that he will be ready come Sunday. If Colon winds up being unable to play the Steelers will move center Maurkice Pouncey to left guard and Doug Legursky would then play center. Cotchery is not expected to suit up on Sunday.

Practicing fully again on Friday were wide receiver Antonio Brown (ankle), safety Troy Polamalu (calf), tackle Max Starks (back), and nose tackle Casey Hampton (illness). all four players are listed as probable and expected to play on Sunday. Brown admitted that his ankle is still sore, but that he will just have to push through it.

At this point, I’d hate to see A.Brown further injure his ankle by playing this week, if he’s not healthy he shouldnt play. I dont like looking ahead, but we’ll need him against Dallas and Cinci

On another note, would love to see Worilds have another good game, Woodley is injury prone and Harrison is aging, we need one of the young LB’s to step up

  • Josh

good to know roethlisberger will rest for one more week. i think he’ll be ready for sure next week.

  • Mike Carroll

Let’s hope Ben can throw normally again this year. But we’re talking about an injury to his throwing shoulder, which seems to be worse than anything else he’s ever had. I would not assume he’ll be back next week and even if he is, it’s clear he won’t be near 100% that quickly. That means the team better start winning without him, starting this week. Charlie can do it, so long as the rest of the offense supports him this week (and the defense comes up big again).

I wouldnt put anything past Ben, that being said, I agree, they almost beat the Ravens having turned the ball over once, allowing a TD return on special teams and with Lefty limping on and off the field. Then, next the Browns only won by 6pts after we turned the ball over more times than I can even remember. Both of those games were winnable. If Dwyer stays healthy and runs hard and Batch doesnt turn the ball over, they’ll compete in every game

What about DeCastro? I read elsewhere he might have had enough practice days this week to play right guard, so Foster can slide over to right tackle. For protecting Charlie, having Foster at right tackle is much safer than Beachum. I heard Steelers were trying that a few days ago.

  • I am sniffing an upset here..Steelers win because 1. Worilds gets a pair of sacks. 2. Harrison gets pressure and 1 sack. 3. Batch is more comfy with starters and AB is back. 4. Beachum does his job. 5. Defense lays the hammer to Rice once again….Go Steelers! 23-16

  • Mike Carroll

Bottom line, I think the Steelers are going to have to win a game or two without Ben to be able make the playoffs.

what the deal with ankles, first Gilbert suddenly gets IRd and Colon suddenly is out for two weeks with little to no info. on the subject…?

I think Foster will be kicked outside when its all said and done

  • ..and there ya go. I was off on Baltimore for 4 points…Run the table Boys!!!
