The Pittsburgh Steelers were back on the practice field Wednesday and there were a few players getting in some work at different positions on the offensive line due to injuries.
Left guard Willie Colon (knee) sat out Wednesday so center Maurkice Pouncey got in some work at the position just in case Colon is not ready to go Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens. The consensus is, however, that Colon should be ready and head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday during his press conference that Colon could be limited at the early part of this week.
As a freshman in 2007, Pouncey started 11 of 13 games for Florida at right guard and he also played some guard during his first week of training camp with the Steelers after being drafted. He would of course go on to beat out Justin Hartwig for the starting center spot and that has been is only position ever since.
With Pouncey taking snaps at left guard, Doug Legursky took over at center. Legursky started at left guard Sunday against the Cleveland Browns with Colon sidelined by his knee injury, but his play was uneven and he allowed the only sack in the game as well.
Both left tackle Max Starks (back) and right tackle Mike Adams sat out on Wednesday as well. Adams is out this week after suffering an ankle sprain against the Browns, while Starks reportedly said that he was given a veterans day off Wednesday to rest his back.
With both tackles sidelined, rookie Kelvin Beachum received work at both the left and right tackle spots, while right guard Ramon Foster got some work in at right tackle. Foster started the preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this season at right tackle to show his position flexibility and also played the position in college at Tennessee as well. Tomlin said on Tuesday that Beachum would get the start at right tackle Sunday, but that it is not out of the question that Foster plays there against the Ravens should the need arise.
Rookie David DeCastro took some snaps at right guard on Wednesday with the first team as well.
The general consensus is that Colon will be able to play on Sunday so the starting offensive line right now is speculated to be left to right: Starks, Colon, Pouncey, Foster, and Beachum.
