2012 NFL Week 13 Stats – Adjusted Net Yards Per Passing Attempt Differential

Week 13 is way behind us now and we already have a few teams that have clinched divisions and playoff spots. Below are the ANYPPAD (Adjusted Net Yards Per Passing Attempt Differential) stats year to date. This stat is great for tracking teams success over the season and is a great measuring stick to show which teams might be headed for the post season and which teams might be staying at home as it is based around the passing offense and passing defense of all 32 teams.

If you want to get a better understanding of the stat, read here and here is the final regular season ANYPPAD stats from last year.

Any surprises 13 weeks in? The Indianapolis Colts are, as their -1.28 differential defies this stat. Seems like this happens at least once a year with last year being the Denver Broncos with a -1.80 differential. The Colts, however, should be the only team this season with a negative number to make the playoffs, but they still have two games left with the Houston Texans before they start making travel plans. That being said, going 2-2 in the last 4 games still should get them in the playoffs one would think. Even just one more win should do it.

The Pittsburgh Steelers win Sunday over the Baltimore Ravens was huge and the Ravens now run the chance of losing their next three games in addition as they have to play the Washington Redskins, the Broncos, and the New York Giants before ending the season against the Cincinnati Bengals. There very well could be a chance that the AFC North comes down to the final week. All three of these North teams are tightly grouped in the differential area right now and only two will likely make the playoffs.

The New England Patriots play the Houston Texans Monday night and that should be a pretty good game to watch. The Redskins and Seattle Seahawks both have positive differential numbers late in the season and both are fighting for playoff spots with rookie quarterbacks under center.

There is a good chance that the 12 teams that make playoffs include 5 teams with quarterbacks that have already won a Super Bowl and 3 teams that have rookie quarterbacks. How important is quarterback play? This stat certainly helps define it.
