Greatest Win Ever For Charlie Batch As Steelers Beat Ravens 23-20

Pittsburgh Steelers 3rd string quarterback Charlie Batch will turn 38 on Wednesday and he gave Steeler Nation a gift with a 23-20 win over the Baltimore Ravens.

Batch was 25-of-36 passing in the game for 276 yards and a touchdown in the win. It was the most yards that Batch has thrown for in his Steelers career.

Kicker Shaun Suisham drove home a 42 yard field goal as time expired to give the Steelers the win.

Tight end Heath Miller led the way with 5 catches for 97 yards and scored once while running back Jonathan Dwyer rushed for 49 yards and one touchdown.

Back with more later.

We were due for a win like that this year. HELL of a game.

  • Ahmad

Best Steelers Ravens game in recent memory! Batch and the whole team played their hearts out today. Great win Steelers! Enjoy it because I know I will.

  • GunsDontKillWoodleyKills

Yes – it was Charlies greatest win as a Steeler. And probably in his career – all things considered.

  • I am still waiting to hear from the Beachum Haters but I am quite sure we will not…Great Win!

  • Matt Lipner

What a great effort by the O line to protect Batch. Pass blocking was outstanding.

Ha! Yes i was definitely skeptical of the decision to start Beachum, but he played admirably. I’m alot more confident in his ability now, he played ‘above the line’ as Tomlin would say. The depth we have with these young guys is pretty awesome.

    Great Game

  • steeltown

On a side note, did anyone hear and see the handshake of Tomlin and Harbaugh after the game?

  • JT

And yet run blocking was so pitiful. But I’ll take it!

    Charlie Batch for MVP!

  • Mikey Hoje

Charlie Batch could take this HUGE WIN as “remembrance” well into his old age. We live for the memories and the glories. Great job, Charlie Batch!

  • Thomas Rancy

not gona lie I was pretty close the the egde when Sanders non contact fumbled the football but the steelers made me beleive again!

  • JT

Yeah. Odd move by Tomlin. Harbaugh over reacted, but I can see why he was pissed.

  • TJimmy

I knew he had it him. Good for him

  • GunsDontKillWoodleyKills

It doesn’t even compare to the gatorade baths Harbaugh had last year.

  • JT

I never said it did. Tomlin just usually stays above stuff like that.

  • Matt Lipner

It did seem to be pretty bad, but the Ravens were clearly focusing on the run

I was a full-fledged Batch basher last week (along with Rodney Harrison) and I’m having crow for supper tonight. He was a completely different player this week. He does still have an arm. Not perfect in throwing an interception in the end zone, and missing a wide open Wallace in the end zone, but that last drive from the Steelers 15 was fabulous. I’m just as happy about the way Dick Lebeau has the defense playing at a high level lately. How about Suisham? That guy has been gold since the Steelers picked him up. Restaurant bathrooms feel safer too.

  • Crazy Bone

All the phonies who talked so terribly about Tomlin last week will remain silent this week. They give him no credit when the team gets a big win and blame him for each loss no matter who is injured.

  • Mike Carroll

Great game Charlie! Very sweet since plenty of people were laughing at him last week as if it were a joke that he is still in the league. Good job by Steelers having an experienced QB for a backup.

  • Reader783

I love it. All week people were ripping Beachum with no merit. I love that he stepped up big time. The line’s performance on passing plays was amazing. Absolutely amazing. Granted, Beachum did have help from the guards and running backs, but he held his own all game. Hats off to the line in general, though.

  • Reader783

I agree, Tomlin did seem uninterested in the handshake, but for Harbaugh to yank him back in like that was a bit excessive on his part. I’m so happy we beat them.

  • JT

Interested to see what the Sanders over Wallace supporters have to say. Nobody outside of Heath had a really good game.

  • This game has me hoping that they put Leftwich on IR and keep Batch and Hoyer when Ben gets back. I don’t want to see Leftwich ever line up behind center for the Steelers again.

  • Sanders had a bad game, Wallace has had several. I don’t back one over the other, but there is a case for being upset with Wallace’s play at this point in the season.

  • JT

I’m not saying Wallace is having his best season. But you can’t talk down on Wallace without acknowledging disappointment in the entire WR core outside of Heath. No one else steps up consistently, and the stats show it.

  • Chris92021

Beachum has quick hands and a good punch, which helped to neutralize Kruger. I really like Mike Adams and he will be great. However, Beachum is no bum.

  • Tim Culligan

2 turnovers? In one game? Is this real life?

  • You are right. Miller has been the best and most consistent. Brown has been the best possession guy, but hasn’t scored. Wallace has played poorly at times, but has scored TDs. Sanders shows flashes but isn’t consistent yet.

  • Damn good team effort. That’s the Batch I remember. The O-Line held up pretty well too. The secondary played awesome and it was good to Troy back out there.
