Report: Ben Roethlisberger Was Cleared To Practice Fully On Friday But Chose Not To

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports Sunday that Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was given clearance to practice fully Friday, but chose not to, which ultimately resulted in him being ruled out for the game against the Baltimore Ravens.

La Canfora reports that head coach Mike Tomlin told Roethlisberger he could practice fully on Friday, and that if he did not, he would be ruled out for the game.

Roethlisberger said during the week that he couldn\’t put much zip on the ball, and that he was still in some pain. Roethlisberger also said that he would be honest with the coaching staff as to whether or not he thought he could play and be effective against the Ravens.

La Canfora sounds like he might not be reporting the whole story here and he certainly doesn\’t have a good track record as far as being totally reliable with his reports. Roethlisberger very well might have been cleared to practice on Friday, but he also might have already been told that he would be sitting this week as well.

Until we know more of what went down last week from Roethlisberger and Tomlin, you should take the report by La Canfora with a grain of salt.

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.

    LaCanforda is a numbskull

If this is true, I’m actually proud of Ben. It means he finally has grown up. It takes a big man to realize when you need to sit out. He didn’t last year in SF and it hurt the team.

No doubt Ben would have played if he thought he could help the team in the long run. His judgment call is better than all of ours, I’m sure there was a reason he decided to sit this one out. Good decision.

The North is pretty much already locked up for Baltimore anyway (Unless Kiesel hits Flacco a couple more times like he did in the last meeting). A win today would be a good win to pivot from moving forward…..Ben or No Ben.

La Canfora is a recovering schmuck. He obviously made no effort to verify , players reportedly knew early in week Ben was ruled out.

Remember when La Canfora was confident Casey Hampton was getting cut. And everytime someone in the Steelers media called him out, he stood by it. Ever since then, I’ve never believed the guy.
