Report: Steelers Work Out Free Agent CB Justin King On Wednesday

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said during his Tuesday press conference that the team would likely kick the tires on a few free agent cornerbacks in light of Ike Taylor being out now at least a few weeks with a fractured right ankle.

The team had free agent cornerback Stanford Routt scheduled for a Wednesday visit, but he signed with the Houston Texans on Tuesday after working out for them. Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is now reporting on Wednesday via Twitter that free agent cornerback Justin King is in today for a work out.

King, who played his college ball at Penn State, was a fourth-round pick of the St. Louis Rams in 2008. He most recently was on the roster of the Indianapolis Colts earlier this season.

Tomlin made it clear on Tuesday that it was no guarantee that any of the free agents would be signed that they bring in and insinuated that the team was just updating their list of names should another injury strike the position.

On Tuesday Josh Victorian was signed back to the practice squad for depth purposes.

Just hope they don’t pull another Aaron Smith with Taylor….keep him on the roster in the hope that he’ll return for a Super Bowl game.

Wow its amazing the athletes that are out on the streets, I wonder what his issues have been sticking on a roster. This guy was the fastest DB in his draft class (4.31) and second only to Chris Johnson at the entire combine that year. He must have problems with the mental aspects of the game

  • Come on!!! Sign my cuz!!!

Agreed, I only saw him play one time, and that was last year against the Ravens. Torrey Smith beat him on 3 long td’s.. I’m interested in seeing Van Dyke in the secondary. The Steeler’s are clearly interested in his potential.

Definitely, the Steelers were seriously interested in Van Dyke. He was on their draft board, same as Cortez Allen & Curtis Brown. He might not see much time on Defense in the next couple weeks, but just his speed on special teams is exciting.

If it’s really just a hairline fracture then it’s not that bad and he should be back no later than the start of the playoffs but likely earlier than that.

  • I watched King his whole PSU career and some in the pros. His biggest issue is that while he is fast and ok in coverage, he is soft when it comes to tackling, and he doesn’t recover well if you can get behind him.

  • Didn’t he get a bad injury in his rookie season?

  • Can’t remember now, possibly.
