Steelers Injury Report: Ike Taylor Out Again; Allen & Lewis Might Be Ready

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin met the media on Tuesday for his weekly press conference to talk about the loss on Sunday to the Dallas Cowboys and the upcoming game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

During his press conference Tomlin updated the current injury status of the team heading into this week of practice. Wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders (rib) suffered a rib injury this past Sunday and Tomlin said that he would be monitored this week and will obviously be limited at the early portion of the week. They will gauge how he works as it relates to whether or not he will be able to participate on Sunday.

Cornerback Ike Taylor (ankle) will remain out with his fractured ankle but Tomlin did say that he is out of the walking boot and making progress.

Cornerback DeMarcus Van Dyke (shoulder) is out with a dislocated shoulder suffered early in the game against the Cowboys and he was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday to make room for free agent cornerback Justin King, who was signed to the 53 man roster on Tuesday.

Tackle Mike Adams (ankle) appears to be ready to practice this week after missing the last three games. He will be monitored over the course of the week. Tomlin did not say if Adams would start at not at right tackle.

Cornerback Cortez Allen (groin) is scheduled to practice and participate this week. Like the others, Tomlin said that he will also be monitored closely during the week.

Cornerback Keenan Lewis (hip) will likely be limited early on in the week according to Tomlin, but the coach is optimistic that he will be able to play this week. Tomlin called the injury suffered by Lewis on Sunday a reinjury of the hip flexor even though after the game he said the injury was one to the groin.

Man.. if we can get K.Lewis or Cortez Allen back that would be sweet.. BOTH would be even better!!!

  • Mike Carroll

Alright! This team is on life support, but not dead yet. I wrote on a previous blog that the team’s realistic chances are small and only wishful thinking would say otherwise. But it would be awfully nice to get Keenan and Cortez back this week and Ike in another week or two. This secondary was playing lights out for a 5-6 week stretch before the injuries, so there’s reason to believe they can resume that if healthy. I would at least question Troy’s place in it though, unfortunately.

If we can atleast get Lewis back, to cover Green, that would increase our chances greatly

Funny how everyone talks s@#% about Ike Taylor, till he gets injured

  • TJimmy

. I think he got racked. It was not his hip flexor he was grabbing after he landed

  • Seconadary has been playing lights out for 7 weeks when healthy. Early in the season the weak link was Ryan Mundy, Will Allen replaced him and they’ve been phenomenal all season since. Now Ike Taylor and Cortez Allen have been out the past few weeks and Curtis Brown and Josh Victorian have been complete garbage getting picked on all game. As long as Steelers get Ike Taylor and Cortez Allen back they’ll be unstoppable once again. Offense has been the weak link as it always is all year long and turns the ball over waaaay too much. Getting the always #1 NFL ranked defense healthy is gonna be the key because they carry this team every single year.

  • Ike’s been phenomenal his whole career. He’s only had maybe 5 bad games in his entire career. I’ll take #1 ranked pass defense over catching a few more ints any day and that’s why Ike’s awesome, he may drop ints but he’s always great at batting the balls down and outstanding against the run as well.

Agreed. Really his best attribute is being able to shadow opposing Teams #1 WR’s so that QB’s dont even want to target them

  • steeltown

Dont forget Keenan Lewis.. he has turned into a solid starter

  • Vic

When is #43 going to make a play? This is the second season he has been a non factor.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I’ve always felt Ike was an outstanding corner, but he has had plenty of detractors on this site. Funny how the tune changes when he is out. CB is probably the most thankless job in the NFL.
