Steelers To Work Out Free Agent CB Stanford Routt

Maybe the fibula injury suffered by cornerback Ike Taylor Sunday in the win over the Baltimore Ravens will keep out a very extended time after all as John McClain from the Houston Chronicle is reporting via Twitter that free agent cornerback Stanford Routt will work out for the Pittsburgh Steelers today.

Routt, who was released by the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this season, will also work out for the Houston Texans on Tuesday in addition, according to McClain.

Taylor injured his lower right ankle on the third play of the game Sunday while defending a deep pass intended for Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith. Taylor was later seen wearing a boot on his ankle and leg and head coach Mike Tomlin said afterwards that the veteran cornerback would need an MRI to determine the severity of the injury.

Tomlin is scheduled to discuss Taylor and perhaps even Routt during his Tuesday press conference.

Hmmm interesting.. Routt is a good player, but hate lose Taylor for the season

Cover corner was paid too much in Oakland. Would like him on the Steelers for a good price. He was averaging 10-11 mil per year in contracts (Oakland and KC). He’s definitely not worth that kind of money. 5-7 maybe or let him rot in free agency.

The kids are alright. The Steelers are just looking for some experience and Routt has that. But he also probably thinks he’s worth 10 mil a year.

At this point I’m sure he’d take a vet min for the rest of his year…as he still has or will get the guaranteed money Oak and KC gave him.
