Steelers Waive QB Brian Hoyer, Promote CB Josh Victorian From Practice Squad

The Pittsburgh Steelers now have quarterback Ben Roethlisberger back somewhat healthy and with cornerback Ike Taylor now sidelined indefinitely with an ankle injury, the team decided to waive quarterback Brian Hoyer on Saturday and promote cornerback Josh Victorian from the practice squad to take his spot on the 53 man roster.

Hoyer served as the backup quarterback for the last two games after Byron Leftwich injured his ribs in the loss to the Baltimore Ravens back in Week 11. His stay on the roster was expected to be a short one.

Victorian started the season on the Steelers practice squad, but was released in favor of wide receiver Bert Reed at the end of November. The time away for the cornerback was a short one as the Steelers signed him back to the practice squad earlier this week after Taylor went down.

With Leftwich questionable on the Friday injury report, Batch is expected to back up Roethlisberger on Sunday against the San Diego Chargers.
