UTEP Officially Announces Hiring Of Steelers O-Line Coach Sean Kugler As Their Head Coach

We knew it was coming and Monday it was made official as UTEP officially announced via their website that Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line coach Sean Kugler has been hired to be their head coach.

Kugler is still expected to finish out the season with the Steelers, but obviously his evenings will now likely be spent putting together a coaching staff and making phone calls to players and recruits.

Kugler, a four year letter winner at UTEP, was hired by the Steelers prior to the 2010 season and has had to juggle an offensive line unit that has been plagued by injuries since his arrival.

Shaun Sarrett, who was hired prior to the start of this season as the Steelers new offensive assistant/quality control coach when Harold Goodman left to become the offensive line coach for the Indianapolis Colts figures to have a bigger role in helping out the offensive line moving forward. As I mentioned in an earlier post, Sarrett could be perceived as a candidate to replace Kugler next season if the Steelers choose to stay in house.

Head coach Mike Tomlin will likely be asked about losing Kugler on Tuesday during his regularly scheduled press conference, but we are unlikely to learn anything more than we already know at this point.
