Reagan Maui\’a Takes To Twitter To Clear The Name Of Steelers Safety Troy Polamalu

Wednesday night I alerted you that the name of Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu had surfaced in a report about the Manti Te\’o fake internet girlfriend hoax that is still trying to be solved. On Thursday, the player responsible for dragging his name into the story has taken to Twitter to make sure that everyone knows that Polamalu did not meet or know Lennay Kekua, the alleged fake girlfriend, and that he\’s being unfairly dragged into this.

Fullback Reagan Maui\’a, who most recently played with the Arizona Cardinals, was quoted in the Wednesday night story on ESPN as saying that he believes Kekua existed because he met her in person when he, Polamalu and other Polynesian teammates went to do charity work in American Samoa in June 2011.

“This was before her and Manti,” Mauia said in the report. “I don\’t think Manti was even in the picture, but she and I became good friends. We would talk off and on, just checking up on each other kind of thing. I am close to her family. When she was going through the loss of her father, I was — I offered a comforting shoulder and just someone to bounce her emotions off. That was just from meeting her in Samoa.”

Mauia also would go on to describe Kekua as well.

“She was tall,” he said. “Volleyball-type of physique. She was athletic, tall, beautiful. Long hair. Polynesian. She looked like a model … ”

As I stated in my Wednesday night post, Mauia never suggested that Polamalu had met or even seen the female in question. More than anything I wanted to show how bizarre the story had gotten with the name of Polamalu even surfacing in a report by the time the late evening rolled around.

As far as Mauia goes, he apparently has nothing more to say about the matter to the media. I wonder why.

Man, this story gets crazier by the hour and it is showing no signs of slowing down. It should be very entertaining by the time all of the crap finishes hitting the fan.

My question? Why hasn\’t the media been able to track down Ronaiah Tuiasosopo as of yet? Will we have to wait for Deadspin to do that too? The media is losing this race to the bloggers and I love watching it.
