Report: S Ross Ventrone Visits Steelers On Wednesday

It is about that time for the Pittsburgh Steelers to start signing players to future contracts now that the season is over and we could have our first one announced pretty soon.

Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports via Twitter on Wednesday that safety Ross Ventrone, a Chartiers Valley graduate, is visiting the Steelers today.

Ventrone was originally signed by the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2010 after playing his college ball at Villanova. He is the younger brother of current Cleveland Browns safety Ray Ventrone.

Ventrone played 30 snaps on defense for the Patriots in 2011 and recorded 2 total tackles.

This guy is undersized, but he’s fast and a good tackler. If signed he could compete for a backup spot next season, especially if neither Mundy or Will Allen are re-signed. The Patriots have signed and released him a ton to their active roster and PS, so they must see something in him to keep bringing him back in.

I suggest take into account how many players previously signed to futures contracts by the team were then kept by that team. Because the previous offseasons Steelers signed players to futures contracts who were then some of the first players cut in camp or early preseason.

He would be a nice relacement for Troy if he was any good but he stinks

  • I would be a nice replacement for Troy too… If, of course, I was any good, but I stink.
