Report: Todd Haley Interviewing With Cardinals On Wednesday

Last week the Arizona Cardinals asked the Pittsburgh Steelers for permission to interview offensive coordinator Todd Haley for their open head coaching position, and according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Haley is interviewing for the position today.

The report by Bouchette came minutes after Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported on Twitter that Haley will not proceed with the interview despite being granted permission to do so.

Rapoport also passed along in his report that Haley wouldn\'t interview with teams unless it was known ahead of time that has a "very real" chance of getting the job.

It sounds like we have definitely have conflicting reports here, but I would put my money on Bouchette being right.

On Tuesday the Cardinals promoted Steve Keim to be their new General Manager to replace Rod Graves, who was fired after the 2012 season ended. Cardinals team president Michael Bidwill is thought to be a fan of Haley due to him being the offensive coordinator for the team that went to the Super Bowl back in 2008.

The Cardinals have a pretty good list of candidates that they are interviewing for the job and Bidwell admitted that the process would be a diligent one. Keim has been with the Cardinals since 1999 and was promoted to the director of college scouting in 2006 and player personnel director in 2008, so he and Haley both know each other very well.

    Hmmm..

It sounds to me like they both may be right. Haley is interviewing, meaning Bouchette is right. Rapoport claims he isn’t and will only interview for jobs that he has a “very real” chance at. Guess what…he has a real chance for this job.

I still want Hue Jackson as my OC, but my guess is in this case we may stay in house.

The Red Sea is parting .. come on down Haley!

  • steeltown

Yea.. if Haley leaves, I think they should stay in-house this time around, Kirby Wilson or Fichtner would atleast keep you from bringing another new face into town

  • RW

Yeah… I hate this time of year.

  • steeltown

Very confused. The NFL website is saying that Haley’s Agent said “no interview” is taking place and that his agent was very emphatic about it… while Bouchette is said to have received his info straight from Rooney II… Why is this such an issue one way or the other?

Goodbye Todd thanks for the memories.

On the one hand, does it make sense to go with someone who’s been around the team and knows the guys, but has been part of a staff that people generally feel hasn’t made the most of our talent on offense?

On the other hand, does it make sense to go get someone who has coached successful offenses, but isn’t familiar with the team? (This was the choice last year.)

I don’t know the answer to that. I’d say it’s too early to speculate, but you have to think Haley has the inside track on the Arizona job, so if he took the interview today, we could be OC-less quickly.

  • LouPGH

There’s a CBS Sports report that seems to insinuate the Steelers may have publicly said Haley is interviewing for the job in an effort to force him out the door. I don’t buy it, but just putting it out there for the conspiracy theorists among us…

    Dear Todd,
Thanks very much for….well….ok, maybe we just leave it at thanks or…..maybe we should just say goodbye or….well…screw it…..good riddance and get the he11 out, and while you’re packing up, take Pope with ya’!
