Steelers S Ryan Clark Reportedly Quit Twitter To Focus On His Rehab & Training

Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark has deleted his Twitter account and his wife Yonka Clark says that he has done so in order to start focusing on his rehab and offseason training.

Focusing on rehab & training, Tweeted Yonka on Sunday, when asked why her husband deleted his Twitter account.

Clark has received some serious backlash from the Steeler fanbase over the last several weeks because he is openly rooting for the Baltimore Ravens, and more specifically linebacker Ray Lewis, to win the Super Bowl this coming Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. Lewis, as you well know by now, will be retiring after the game.

Clark, who had to decline an invitation last week to the Pro Bowl because of quad contusion suffered in the season finale against the Cleveland Browns, has also been critical of the remarks made about Lewis on Facebook by Anna Welker, the wife of New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker, after the Ravens beat the Patriots in the AFC Championship game. Clark tweeted that Mrs. Welker’s statement contained racism.

Anna has since offered up an apology for her remarks.

Clark has quit Twitter once before only to return, so I expect he will resurface again at some point. There is some crazy speculation floating around that he had been informed that he would be released, but that certainly does not appear to be the case. What Clark is doing right now is laying low.

I saw the release speculation on another site and I dont understand how they (these websites) could even fathom that we can be a successful team without him. He has been one of our top tacklers and a proven leader. I hate the websites try to create a frenzy in the fanbase esp when its coming from a website that is Steelers oriented. The front office would have to call next season a wash if we dont have Clark or Troy playing safety as we have no one capable of filling their void.

  • Was it Tomlin who yelled to Clark at the 2012 training camp the he was “drafting a Safety in the first round of the next draft” when Clark was giving him a jab over drafting two o-lineman in the first 2 rounds? Maybe Tomlin wasn’t kidding….

My god.. who cares.. good, rehab and focus on offseason training as you should have already been doing, along with every other player in the league not playing in this weeks game

Clark and Pouncey should go play for the Ravens. Jagoffs

SMH @ Stupid people complaining about him rooting for the Ravens. Just because their teams are rivals doesnt mean they hate each other and don’t root for each other. For a lot of guys the NFL is a brotherhood regardless of the team you’re on/etc…and they support each other either way.

Why do you have a problem with them rooting for the Ravens? I am rooting for the Ravens as well. The reason is that the Steelers clearly lacked focus or motivation or something this season. They got complacent and just assumed they could walk out there and beat anybody. I think if the Ravens win and the Steelers have to watch them gloat and see the media gush about them for the next 6 months, that might actually be a wake up call for certain Steelers. Maybe it will light a fire under them. I think all STeeler fans should root for the Ravens for this reason.

+ it will piss off the Steelers players if the Ravens win the SB. This team plays so much better when they’re pissed off.

I’m cheering for the Ravens even though I’m a Steelers fan, nothing wrong with that imo. I’ve got a ton of respect for their players on D & I’m really looking forward to a SB which doesn’t involve 100+ passes.

I always find it a bit sad when fans can’t appreciate good players and teams because they’re the opposition.

I agree. At least I respect Baltimore. They are similar in philosophy to the Steelers. If it can’t be the Steelers, then I pick the team I respect the most (or hate the least if I respect neither).

The Ravens aren’t one of those teams with a QB the refs baby like Tom Brady. They don’t have a cheating scandal like the Patriots. They play hard. The media doesn’t act like their QB walks on water (like Brady, Manning, Rogers, Brees). Thank God that at least we haven’t had to endure 2 weeks of reporters gushing about one or 2 of those guys. I had enough of the Peyton Manning love fest during the regular season.

I really wish the Steelers were there, but they aren’t so I’m making the best of a bad situation.

  • Seriously, who cares? Why is his wife talking about it?
