Steelers Six From Around The Web – January 5th – Happy Anniversary Cleveland & Chuck Noll Turns 81

10 years ago today the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Cleveland Browns in the AFC Wild Card game at Heinz Field as quarterback Tommy Maddox led an amazing comeback late in the fourth quarter for the win. NFL.com has a great video recap of that came that is filled with the highlights.

I could never write a recap of that game that would do it justice but Steve Doerschuk of the Canton Repository wrote a great remembrance of that game back in 2011. Doerschuk interviewed Bruce Arians for the story down in Dallas as the Steelers were preparing to play the Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl. Arians, who was the Browns offensive coordinator in that game, gave Doerschuk some great quotes for his piece. Had the Browns won that game made a deep ruin in the playoffs, Arians most likely would have been a head coach by now.

Arians of course hasn\’t been a head coach in the league yet, but that could change next season. As of Friday both the Philadelphia Eagles and the Chicago Bears have requested permission to interview the Steelers former offensive coordinator next week.

Ed Werder of ESPN reported Friday morning that Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley has not yet agreed to interview for the Arizona Cardinals for their open head coaching position because he wants to determine their level of interest first. Paul Calvisi of Arizona Sports 620, however, says to not believe the Werder report.

Steeler Nation is alive and well down in Mexico and Deadspin has a great piece on the black and gold faithful that reside south of the border.

Finally, the great Chuck Noll turns 81 today. Here is his Hall of Fame page and a video look back at his coaching career with the Steelers.
