Steelers DE Brett Keisel Shears The Beard A Third Time For Children’s Hospital Of Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel hosted his third annual “Shear Da Beard” event Thursday night at Jergel\’s Rhythm Grille. The annual event once again benefited the cancer programs at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh at UPMC and was sold out way in advance.

As always, several family members, Steelers players, coaches, and even Dan Rooney, each took turns at snipping away a portion of the famous beard. Ben Roethlisberger, Mike Tomlin, Dick LeBeau, Heath Miller, Cameron Heyward and Charlie Batch all made appearances, as did former Steelers defensive end Aaron Smith, whose son Elijah was treated for leukemia at the hospital and the reason why the event was started.

After the celebrity snips were out of the way, Keisel was freshly shaved by the staff of Sports Clips. He then disappeared for a short while so that he could continue to clean up and change into dress clothes, complete with a dress hat. When the Steelers defensive end emerged back on stage to the sounds of “Sharp Dressed Man” by ZZ Top, the crowd ate it up and cheered.

The event reportedly raised more than $50,000 this year and you can watch some video shot by the Pittsburgh Post Gazette below. Keisel is entering the final year of his contract in 2013 that is scheduled to pay him $2.825 million.
