2013 Draft

Report: Steelers To Meet With Texas S Kenny Vaccaro At NFL Combine

The defensive backs are getting their time with media Sunday at the NFL combine and Jim Wexell of Steel City Insider reports via Twitter that Texas safety Kenny Vaccaro is scheduled to have a formal interview tonight with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

This news is not surprising at all as the Steelers seem certain to draft a safety that can play both inside the box and deep at some point during the draft in April.

Vaccaro can play both the run and the pass effectively and is forecasted by many to be drafted in the first round after a successful college career.

The Steelers need to start grooming long-term at the safety position with both Troy Polamalu and Ryan Clark winding down their careers. Clark is currently in the final year of his current contract while Polamalu is signed through the 2014 season.

The defensive backs will not be on the field in Indianapolis until Tuesday. The Steelers are permitted to interview 60 players at the combine for 15 minutes each.
