Steelers Restructure Contract Of Antonio Brown

As expected, the Pittsburgh Steelers are continuing on with their contract restructures in an effort to get cap compliant by the March 12 deadline. On Tuesday it was reported that linebacker Lawrence Timmons restructured his contract and that move cleared $,5,343,750 million in 2013 cap space.

Pro Football Talk reports Wednesday via Twitter that Antonio Brown has also restructured his contract.

While the exact numbers aren\’t yet known, it is believed that Brown had $1.35 million of his $2 million base salary and his $2.5 million roster bonus due him turned into a signing bonus. That move should clear $3.08 million in 2013 cap space.

The restructure now adds $770,000 to the final four years of Brown\’s contract, which expires after the 2017 season. The cap hits for Brown in 2014-2017 are now expected to be $8,470,000, $8,470,000, $10,720,000 and $9,480,000 in those years respectively.

The Steelers are also expected to restructure the contract of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and linebacker LaMarr Woodley as well.

About Dave Bryan

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.

Nice… this, plus Ben’s restructure should put us right at cap compliant.

I hope there is a way (paycuts, terminations) to get more cap room without any further future borrowing…

It was said that they aren’t terminating any healthy starters. So that means Harrison will take a pay cut not be cut. I have mixed feelings about that because I like Harrison and feel he has a year left However, Jason Worilds is a free agent next year. If I’m Worilds I go into free agency next year looking for a team that wants & values me. SAy hello Ray Horton & Cleveland.

  • steeltown

Agreed. But his value will be way down with the limited tape teams will have on him

I’m still not convinced that Harrison takes a paycut..I think he already said he was against it.. which in turn could see him released

Guessing the Steelers will not be signing ANY free agent this year or next. Thats a shame becaue there are som good ones avaiable

  • LouPGH

Folks really shouldn’t have a problem with the Khan M.O. unless either (1) they believe the NFL is going to cease to exist and they’re concerned about how much guaranteed cash the franchise/the Rooney’s are on the hook for, or (2) they advocate picking up free agents. The NFL is not going to cease to exist, nor do the Steelers make a habit of picking up free agents.

  • LouPGH

That is to say, structuring the deals this way fits the system. Saving money for its own sake is pointless and bringing in big time free agents isn’t something the organization wants to do.

    Will be signing Steve Breaston

Worilds should still be restricted next season, shouldnt be a problem.
