Could The Colts Also Be After Steelers WR Emmanuel Sanders?

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay has been stirring up quite a bit of noise on Twitter over the course of the last few days.

On Saturday, Irsay wanted to let Colts fans know via Twitter that they are working on a deal and that they were very close to making that deal work. He also later hinted that the player they were looking to acquire plays wide receiver.

Many started to speculate that Irsay might be intending to go after New York Giants unrestricted free agent wide receiver Victor Cruz, but the Colts owner shot that down as a possibility on Sunday at the owners\’ meetings.

If it is indeed a restricted free agent that Irsay is after, you have to wonder if he might have his sights set on Pittsburgh Steelers restricted free agent wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders, who visited with the New England Patriots on Friday.

Sanders posted on his Facebook page Saturday that he hasn\’t been given or signed an offer sheet with the Patriots yet. In addition to that, Sanders also wrote that right now there are teams interested and that he is just checking things out. Teams? Perhaps the Colts could be in the running with the Patriots for his services.

The Colts could use a third wide receiver to go along with Reggie Wayne and T.Y. Hilton, and you have to admit that Sanders would fit well in that offense. He would also succeed Wayne when he finally hangs up his cleats.

Now, Irsay certainly could be hinting that a trade is in the works just the same, so we will just have to wait and see what ultimately happens.

Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said on Sunday that the team has yet to receive a signed restricted offer sheet for Sanders as of yet. That could change as soon as Monday.

This is just speculation, mind you, but it does add up, especially if Cruz is not a player that Irsay is targeting.
