Report: Cowboys Free Agent LB Victor Butler To Visit Steelers On Thursday

The Pittsburgh Steelers missed out on free agent linebackers Lorenzo Alexander and Moise Fokou as both players signed contracts with other teams on Wednesday. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports now reports via Twitter Wednesday night that Dallas Cowboys free agent linebacker Victor Butler is scheduled to visit Pittsburgh on Thursday.

Butler, an outside linebacker, has played in 63 games for the Cowboys over the course of the last four seasons. Only twice did he start, however. His 25 total tackles in 2012 set a career-high, and his three sacks matched a career best. Butler played only 300 snaps for the Cowboys last season on defense.

The Steelers are looking to add depth at the outside linebacker position after the release of outside linebacker James Harrison this past Saturday. Also not expected back is Brandon Johnson, who worked at both the inside and outside spots.

The Steelers do not have a lot of cap space to pay a back-up linebacker much more than a  minimum salary. Butler apparently has a few other teams interested in him as well, so it will not be surprising to see him leave Pittsburgh without a deal.
