Free Agent WR Steve Breaston Remains Unsigned Following Visit To Pittsburgh

Free agent wide receiver Steve Breaston had a visit with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday, during which he was given a physical and presumably met with the coaches.

Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports on Friday via Twitter that Breaston was not signed, but that the Steelers may revisit him as an option later on if he remains unsigned.

Although the Steelers are now presumed to be under the $123 million salary cap number following the contract restructures of Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown and Lawrence Timmons this past week, they still do not have a lot of cap room to play with. Breaston and his agent Eric Mertz might also have too high of an asking price right now for the Steelers in addition.

Breaston leaving Pittsburgh without a contract this early in the offseason is not overly surprising. The Steelers brought him in and did their due diligence with him and they will ciontinue to keep their eyes peeled for other potential veteran fits.

The 29 year old Woodland Hills product reportedly already met with Cleveland Browns prior to his visit to Pittsburgh, and the Detroit Lions, Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans reportedly also have interest in him.

Breaston was released by the Kansas City Chiefs a short time ago and his link to the Steelers was an obvious one after playing for offensive coordinator Todd Haley in Kansas City and when both were with the Arizona Cardinals.
