Jets G Willie Colon Has A Big-Ass Chip On His Shoulder After Being Released By The Steelers

Here is a report that we think we can trust. Rich Cimini of ESPN New York reports on Twitter Tuesday that former Pittsburgh Steelers guard Willie Colon, who signed a one-year deal with the New York Jets recently, is not too happy with the way that things went down with the Steelers.

“I have no ill feelings, (but) I do have a big-ass chip on my shoulder,” said Colon, when asked to talk about his release from the Steelers.

Colon was released by the Steelers last Wednesday, a day after the 2013 new league started after apparently not even being asked to take a pay cut, according to his agent Joe Linta. The Steelers chose to re-sign guard Ramon Foster instead of holding onto Colon.

Colon had to see the writing on the wall, however, as his $5.5 million base salary that he was scheduled to earn in 2013 was way too high considering the fact that he has been on the Steelers injured reserve list for each of the last three seasons. The Steelers designated the Hofstra product a post June 1st release, which means that they will not get the $5.5 million cap relief until June 2nd.

Colon is expected to play guard for the Jets, who are scheduled to play the Steelers in New York in 2013. That big-ass chip, assuming it doesn\’t need to be surgically removed by the time the two teams play, will likely have grown quite a bit come the kickoff of that game. The quotes leading up to that game ought to be pretty good as well.

Hopefully that big-ass chip on Colon\’s shoulder does not block the vision of Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez, either, as it could result in another butt fumble.
