Report: Steelers Have Interest In Redskins Free Agent LB Lorenzo Alexander

Mark Maske of the Washington Post reported on Tuesday that the Pittsburgh Steelers are one of several teams that has interest in Washington Redskins free agent linebacker Lorenzo Alexander.

Alexander is a solid special teams player and new Steelers special teams coach Danny Smith knows him well from his time spent with the Redskins as their special teams coach. Alexander made the pro Bowl this past season as a special teams player.

Alexander was originally signed by the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent in 2005. He has spent the last seven season in Washington with the Redskins.

Last season Alexander recorded 46 total tackles and 2.5 sacks in 325 snaps on defense, mostly at the outside linebacker position.

If he’s cheap, why not… more competition in camp for some of these young LB’s we currently have on roster

could we sign Heyward-Bey for minimum who’s just cut by Raiders. He’s faster than Wallet but bad hands?

Sign this guy up for the reasons given above! Could use all the help we can get on Special Teams!

From what I’m reading Arizona is strongly bidding for this guy.. they’ll offer him more than we will

  • sounds good. bring him to camp

Steelers been reportedly interested in every cheap LB available. Steelers do lack demon tacklers on STs tho.

I saw a kitchen sink outside…heard the Steelers had interest in bringing it in for a workout at LB.

I’ve got 50 deer in my hayfield tonight. Saw cell phones light up on some of the bucks. Wonder who’s interested?

Alexander is an interesting player. He is a former 300 pound defensive lineman who lost significant weight and made it in the NFL playing special teams and some linebacker.

Alexander IS the type of player we need to bring in. Other teams may outbid us but I, for one, hope we sign him asap. He is a monster special teams player and has potential yet unrealized at OLB. He could well be an excellent signing.
