Report: Steelers WR Plaxico Burress Has Drivers License Suspended On Monday

The Pittsburgh Steelers re-signed wide receiver Plaxico Burress to a one-year contract a few weeks ago, but it appears that he might need a teammate to give him rides to practice this year.

TMZ reports on Monday that Burress has had his drivers license suspended after failing to settle a judgment against him stemming from a 2008 traffic accident.

Burress, who did not have insurance at the time that he rear-ended a Florida woman back in May of 2008, was ordered by a jury to pay $125,000 plus interest to the victim last January, but has yet to do so.

Burress filed an appeal last March, but it appears that he will not win that, and as of Monday, his license was to be suspended by the Florida Division of Motor Vehicles.

Burress had three catches for 42 yards and a touchdown in limited action last season. He was signed to the 53 man roster late in the season after wide receivers Antonio Brown and Jerricho Cotchery were both sidelined with injuries.

About Dave Bryan

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.

I hope we draft a WR in the early Rds

  • Ben Hardy

I’m really lovin on Nuke Hopkins right now.

  • SteelerFanInMD

I thought the Steelers were staying away from players with character issues. Last year they drafted three players with known issues — Adams, Ta’amu and Rainey. Then they go out and sign Burress and re-sign him this year.

  • Maurice_hill_district

Taamu in a back seat will simply move over to make room for Plax.

This doesnt significantly affect our draft because we already needed to draft a good WR & preferably tall. & before last season Plax lost much quickness & speed & thats why he was available.

This happened back in 2008 why are they just now suspending his license? Is the Court System really that slow?

I feel confident that a WR will be drafted early in this years draft along with a Safety and LB in the 1st 3 rds.

I’m with you guys on taking an offensive skill player early. The trouble is, are any of them worth a pick at 17 and if not, would a guy like Hopkins be there for us in the second?

It all makes me think that trading back in the first to get someone like him sounds like a pretty good scenario…

  • Lamarr56

    Patterson at 17?

  • steeltown

    Agreed

  • steeltown

Agreed.. if no one great falls to #17 I hope they trade back, get an extra pick and still be able to select one of the TOP WR’s or Safeties

  • Garrett Hunt

I would love to add receiver depth by drafting Nuk Hopkins. But the problem is he is in an awkward spot for the 17th pick. Maybe too early for our first pick and probably won’t be there for our second. Baring a trade I don’t see it happening.

  • redneckmuslim

Exactly. This might be the year to trade back.

  • Dan

I guess we’re not. I reckon as long as Big Ben tainted the image anyway…

  • Shannon Stephenson

Are the Bengals in the Steeler FO…we seem to be getting a lot of duds on this team.

Plastico is a serious risk and Colbert can’t possibly be counting on him. He was just like Wallace in that he clearly did not go full speed on a lot of plays. If Plastico is a starter we will be a sub 500 team.
