Steelers CB DeMarcus Van Dyke Signs Exclusive Rights Tender

In a not-so-surprising move, Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback DeMarcus Van Dyke has signed his one-year exclusive tender of $555,000.

Exclusive rights free agents have no choice but to sign their tenders as they can\’t negotiate with other teams.

Van Dyke was signed last year by the Steelers after clearing waivers just prior to the start of the regular season after being waived by the Oakland Raiders.

The fastest man at the 2011 NFL combine was originally drafted by the Raiders in the 3rd round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

Van Dyke only saw time on special teams last year for the Steelers and became a liability in that area as he was penalized five times in total. Those penalties led to him being benched temporarily by head coach Mike Tomlin as a result.

Van Dyke ended the season on injured reserve after he suffered a shoulder injury that required surgery in the Week 15 game against the Dallas Cowboys. He figures to compete for a spot on the 53 man roster during training camp.

    no surprise here

He’ll be remembered for the penalties, but I also remember the good plays he had using his speed when he downed the ball on the one yard line and the following week caused a miffed catch on a punt that resulted in a turnover in our favor.

If we lose K.Lewis, this guy could easily be #5 on the depth chart behind Ike, C.Allen, Gay and C.Brown

can we fix his “penalties” are they mental?

Oh boy, we’re down to these.
That’ll teach Keenan to shop around first. Not!

I suspect our sleepwalking special teams coach last year might’ve been part of that. That’s based on we had other players on STs make bonehead mistakes, & we had bonehead decisions at coaching level about not knowing our FG kicker’s maximum distance. Next STs coach gets a chance.

    I’d rather Dick Van Dyke.

I’m assuming he has brick hands or someone would have tried him at receiver. If he even had decent hands, they could experiment in pre-season to see if he could eventually replace Wallace. But, there has to be a reason he’s a DB. Gotta be the hands. That means few interceptions, too.

or playmate of the year, Emily Van Dyke. ( i made that up, don’t google it)

I suspect the new ST Coach will preach sound play.. I’m sure upon his hire he was told that priority one is limit penalties and in turn improve field position

I think this offseason we really picked up some good coaches, with tons of experience
