Steelers Free Agent CB Keenan Lewis Visiting Saints

We haven\'t heard much news regarding Pittsburgh Steelers free agent cornerback Keenan Lewis since the 2013 free agency signing period started on Tuesday, but on Wednesday Lewis posted on Twitter that he would be visiting the New Orleans Saints.

Lewis is from the New Orleans area and the Saints could definitely use some help in their secondary as they move to a 3-4 defense under new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan.

The Saints. much like the Steelers, don\'t have a lot of salary cap room to work with, however, and they were forced to restructure quite a few contracts over the course of the last few weeks in order to get under the $123 million number.

The free agent cornerback market is flooded right now and you would have to think that the Saints are looking for a bargain.

Oh boy… dont like the fact that he’s from the New Orleans area

  • Sylky_Mcnasty

Thats a great competitor for us. If they are looking to minimize expenses then hed be crazy to move from us for a slighlty higher salary we could offer.

  • Jollyrob68

He’ll take the visit then call The Steelers. He’ll be back tonight or Wednesday

  • CrRe

Yeah, me either. Definitively would give some added appeal.

  • Cody Younkin

Just learned that the Ravens released Bernard Pollard!! I wish he would pick him up ( not going to happen) but he’s a great saftey that wouldnt cost too much and take over for Clark next year.

  • Jollyrob68

He’s 28 and could take over this year. Reduce Clarks & cut his pay to be the veteran backup.

Do the Saints have the cap room to sign him for more than he can get from the Steelers? I thought the Saints were in just as bad a shape or worse than the Steelers. Seeing as how he is down the road from them, I guess they aren’t spending too much money to have him drive down to kick the tires, which could be a good thing for us. Now if he had to get on a plane and go somewhere, perhaps they would be more serious, IMHO.

  • hergieburbur

Clark is a better safety than Pollard, especially in coverage. Not to mention Pollard is a SS and Clark is a FS.

  • hergieburbur

    We can hope.

  • hergieburbur

He is from that area, don’t underestimate the appeal of that.

  • Sylky_Mcnasty

Didnt know that. Damn that is a pretty big bargaining chip.

  • steeltown

Clark is a beast, easily the 2nd best player on Defense last season behind Timmons

  • Clint Martin

I have a feeling he isn’t coming back. I think the Saints are getting him and not letting him leave the building without signing.

  • Clint Martin

He is a Strong Safety take over for Polamalu

  • Clint Martin

Remember when Redskins let Clark go for Adam Archuleta. LMFAO

  • Alan Felicia

Wow! Are you sure you’re a Steeler Fan?

  • Alan Felicia

Yeah, he has to come back to Pitt to pack up his stuff and move back down to his hometome in Nawlins.

  • steeltown

It sounds like they dont have much cap room either, just like us.. lets hope Lewis prefers to play for Lebeau and Lake over a Ryan

  • CrRe

Makes you wonder if he grew up as a Saints fan? I know if I was an NFL player, there is no doubt I’d take a lower salary to play for the Steelers.

  • westernsteel

nice call, you might be right

  • Kolie Oak

So what the heck is his little secret???

  • hergieburbur

They are supposedly interested in Nnamdi as well, so I doubt they offer Lewis anything just yet.

  • Maurice_hill_district

Why surprised or news that he is meeting with Saints. Assume he’ll visit with every team.

  • charles

I agree with your Clark comment. Our secondary played well last year. What we need is to update the QB pressure and then we get what we need the most: TO’s.

  • charles

Our secondary is deep. Carnell has done a fantastic job. What surprises me is the signing of Gay. It almost suggests that the FO knew/knows that Lewis is leaving. I am having serious doubts about the FO’s decisions, but I will wait for that judgement. I am sure that nobody cares what I think but: Harrison stays Woodley goes, Colon stays Legursky is free to sign elsewhere, and I would have offered all of Gay’s money to Lewis. If we bring back Gay for Lewis then I am starting to smell the Pirates FO strategy. What is true is that we don’t know what is going on behind the scenes.

  • Ahmad

Seeing as the Saints are as cap strapped as we are, you have to wonder if they can really offer him more than we can. Then again, they probably won’t have to since Leiws is from the area and the Saints are Super Bowl contenders. All that said, we might have to offer more than the Saints to even think about getting him back.
