Steelers Free Agent CB Keenan Lewis To Visit With Saints Thursday

Pittsburgh Steelers unrestricted free agent cornerback Keenan Lewis posted on Twitter Wednesday that he would be making a visit to the New Orleans Saints. According to Nakia Hogan of The Times-Picayune, however, that visit will actually take place on Thursday morning.

Hogan believes that Lewis will get the full attention of the Saints after another free agent cornerback target of theirs, Derek Cox, formerly of the Jacksonville Jaguars, agreed to a four-year contract with the San Diego Chargers late Wednesday.

Saints new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan is switching the team to a 3-4 defense in 2013, but in his system the cornerbacks are required to play more man coverage as opposed to zone, like Lewis played with the Steelers.

There were reports that the Saints were also interested in Nnamdi Asomugha, who was recently released from the Philadelphia Eagles. There has been no word, however, if indeed he has a visit scheduled.

The cornerback market has been soft so far with very few signings taking place. The market is flooded right now, but signings should start to pick up over the course of the next 48 hours. Should Lewis leave New Orleans without a contract, it would figure to increase his chances of returning to the Steelers ever-so-slightly. That is, of course, if the Steelers are still considering re-signing him at a decent price.

It\’s too early to get your hopes up just yet as we are only entering day three of free agency. As I mentioned in a previous post, the Steelers more than likely would like to know whether or not he wants to return to Pittsburgh come the weekend, or at latest by Monday.
