That\’s Right, James Harrison Wants To Play For The Saints Too

Bill Parise, the agent for former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison, is burning up the cell phone minutes on Sunday.

Not only is Harrison interested in playing for the Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Ravens, but the New Orleans Saints as well, according to a report in The Times-Picayune.

Stop me if you have heard this before.

"The Saints would be a great fit," Parise said Sunday afternoon.

The Saints are switching to a 3-4 defense in 2013, but like the Ravens, they have serious salary cap issues and have been restructuring contracts right and left in order to clear cap room. Perhaps they can pay Harrison in bounty money.

Larry Holder says in his Sunday report, which echoes mine from Saturday night, that the Saints would like defensive end Junior Galette to become an outside linebacker in the new system being instituted by new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan after agreeing to a new three-year contract Saturday. Martez Wilson is expected to be the starter opposite Galette.

Which team will Harrison next be interested in playing for? Place your bets.

Basically, any team that wants to pay him $3, $4, $5 million next year is going to be a great team to play for! Hey, it’s a business…
I’d be surprised if his agent hasn’t already pretty much gauged the market, but maybe Harrison isn’t listening to his agent’s advice on this. It will be interesting to see if he ends up getting more from another team than the Steelers offered.

Parise might be the worst agent ever

  • steeltown

..umm preettyyyy sure James is interested in playing for anyone who will pay him more than the Steelers wanted, at this point

  • RMSteeler

It’ll be interesting if James would be interested in playing for the Steelers again if he doesn’t get any better offers. Also wondering if the Steelers told him their door would be open for him coming home if no better offers come in. Can’t believe his agent wouldn’t go for only a 30% cut in pay. Only teams with the cap space likely won’t sniff a Super Bowl until after Harrison is retired for 5 years.

i can see this; James firing his agent and then coming back to Pittsburgh because he realized his agent only wants the money, and James just wants to be with the team who gave him his career.

What a clown this Parise thing is!

  • Brian Miller

Dave Bryan said in an earlier article that he didn’t believe that one for a second…according to his numbers, the steelers probably were looking for a much higher cut in salary…

There’s still 29 more teams not referred to yet for James, so that’ll be 29 more articles about where he “might (or might not) be a great fit”. Zzzz.

There’s alotta buzz about Redskins wanting to get Harrison, so I look forward to a national sports writer picking up on that one so they can write articles on that for something to do. Now the only buzz is what I just now made up, but anything qualifies as buzz so they should interview Harrison or is agent about it.

What a minute, an unemployed football player willing to play for teams that might pay him, wow what scoops! :)

    - I agree. I think he might have trouble passing physicals, especially for contract he’ll want, I wouldn’t rule out him being still avail during our training camp. Even if he takes a 1 year offer elsewhere I could foresee his back & neck flaring up there, assume other teams know that & would want to hedge contract accordingly, but some owners spend big money stupidly. If Worilds gets hurt in our training camp, we will be desperate for Harrison for his old position, just like when we became desperate for Starks 2 years in a row & had to sign him. That’s why it’s not crazy to think he could be back to us.
    - I too have a hard time believing he wouldn’t take 30% cut, but that coulda been just a made-up number. When no news, I wonder if some sports writers play the odds to make-up crap, implying has insiders, to justify their continued paycheck.

Could that 30% been off a different higher number than the 6 odd million he was actually due this season?
