2013 Draft

Former Steelers RB Merril Hoge To Announce Pittsburgh\’s Second & Third Round Draft Picks

The 2013 NFL draft will take place one week from tomorrow and it will include several former NFL players announcing the second and third draft picks for their former teams.

Bob Labriola reports Wednesday on Twitter that former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Merril Hoge has been chosen to perform that duty for the black and gold on day two of the draft.

Hoge, who now does analyst work for ESPN, was drafted by the Steelers in the tenth round of the 1987 draft with the 261st overall selection out of Idaho State.

During his seven years with the Steelers, Hoge played in 190 regular season games and rushed for 3,115 yards and 21 touchdowns on 819 carries. He also recorded 241 receptions for 2,054 yards and 13 touchdowns in addition.

Hoge, an unrestricted free agent in 1994, signed a three-year, $2.425 million contract with the Chicago Bears, but only played in five games and registered 24 yards on 6 carries in his one and only season there due to problems with concussions.
