Report: Steelers To Tryout Undrafted Youngstown State TE Will Shaw & Pittsburgh S Jarred Holley At Rookie Camp

According to the Youngstown State website, former Penguins tight end Will Shaw has agreed to an undrafted free agent tryout with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers agreed to full contracts with 15 other undrafted free agents Saturday night as we previously reported.

Shaw, who measured in at his pro day at 6020 and 242-pounds, was voted second-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference in 2012 after catching 35 passes for 429 yards and five touchdowns in his first full season as a tight end. In 2011, Shaw caught eight passes for 200 yards and had four touchdowns. He orginally played safety and linebacker before making the move to tight end.

At his pro day, Shaw recorded a 4.73 forty yard dash, did 24 reps on the bench and had an impressive 34 1/2-inch vertical to go along with a 10\’02” broad jump.

Pittsburgh safety Jarred Holley and LSU defensive tackle Josh Downs will also tryout for a contract with the Steelers next weekend.

While it is still unconfirmed, it is believed that former Virginia Tech defensive tackle Antoine Hopkins has also agreed to a tryout contract with the Steelers.

The Steelers rookie camp gets underway next weekend.

Kapinos will battle against Butler for the punt spot? I didn’t see any punter among the probable undrafted names.

Do they have room for any of these guys? They drafted 9 and signed 15 UDFA’s, I think that only leaves one roster spot open on the 90man… would they then have to release some guys, one of the other previously signed undrafted players?

To be honest, Jarred Holley has some nice looking stats.. his size and speed hurt him on draft weekend

Now all they need is a punter and te

  • JDR

paulsen Spaeth, and David Johnson, to go with heath when healthy another te would just be a camp body.

kevin Butler’s son did a good job as punter and will only get better, no need to waste a spot on another punter or kicker

  • JDR

Butler kept the job after kapenis was healthy and is the punter…no need for another waste of space type punter or kicker

I like Drew Butler and I fully expect him to improve in his 2nd year, but I still think they will bring in a Punter for camp, just for competition and in case of injury

By they way, your avatar is awesome
