Steelers Bring In Penn State LB Michael Mauti & Clemson DE/LB Malliciah Goodman For Pre Draft Visits

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a few more pre draft visitors in on Wednesday as Penn State linebacker Michael Mauti and Clemson linebacker Malliciah Goodman are both in town today.

Mauti, who we gave the heads up on Tuesday, is still rehabbing his torn MCL that he suffered in November of last year, but according to him, the rehab is ahead of schedule.

Mauti registered 183 total tackles and 4.5 sacks in 39 games while in college. He also tore up a knee three times in five seasons. He is slated to be a late round draft prospect due to his medical red flags.

Goodman, who measured in at the combine last month at 6035 and 276 pounds, played defensive end at Clemson, where he registered 127 total tackles and 12 sacks in 54 games.

Goodman ran the 40-yard dash in 4.70 and 4.67 seconds, recorded a 33-inch vertical, a 9-foot-9 broad jump, a 4.48-second short shuttle run and 7.10-seconds in the three-cone drill. He also had 26 reps on the bench and has his nearly 37-inch-long arms.

The Steelers are likely looking at Goodman as an outside linebacker prospect. He is not expected to be drafted until the fifth round or later.

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.

M.Goodman looks like an interesting late Rd prospect.. he’s pretty quick when in motion and seems to get good push

CBS has him going earlier than the 5th

  • dennisdoubleday

4.67 is fast for a 276 pounder. That is all.

  • dennisdoubleday

Some impressive pass rushes on that tape, too.

  • RW

    Can’t hold the edge, though.

Goodman is an interesting prospect because he looks like a 43 DE but might be able to fit a 34. Initially you think of him as a 34OLB due to speed and rush ability. Not sure how he is dropping back in coverage though. Probably would have to drop 15 lbs for OLB. On the flip side, he would be a nice inside rusher as DL in the nickel/dime where Steelers have only two DL with hand down. I can see him adding 20 lbs on an NFL strength program and developing into a 34DE because of his long 36.5″ arms. He had a great pro day and will certainly go sooner than “fifth or later”…probably in 4th ot maybe sneaks into end of 3rd.

3rd round? lol. Not happening. You should really watch more film on him. I wouild be surprised if he is drafted before the 5th, just as I stated.

  • CP 72

I watched the bowl game against LSU live. He wore out that right tackle the entire game. Over 6’3” 276 lbs and sub 4.7…..he’ll go before the 5th.

Boy, would I love Mauti in the 6th (even better in the 7th). This team needs a player like him so bad. Although I don’t know what to think since they brought Sly back; does that mean Spence might be coming along better than hoped? (prob not, but I can wish)

No offense Dave, I’ve warched a lot of film on Goodman…by no means is he a stud but this is a kid who’s more athletic than Jarvis Jones in terms of measureables. He was about 255 coming out of HS and ran 4.6 consistently. Put on 20 lbs then slowed down a tad to 4.7. He has prototype 43 size/speed @ 6’4 276 with long arms, so one of those teams may gamble on him late 3rd or 4th. I haven’t heard of any character issues with him that would cause concern.
