Steelers RB Isaac Redman Signs $1.323 Million Restricted Tender

According to the official daily transaction release issued Thursday by the NFL, Pittsburgh Steelers running back Isaac Redman has signed his $1.323 million restricted tender offer and is now under contract for the 2013 season.

The deadline for restricted free agents to receive offer sheets from other teams is Friday.

Redman, who was originally signed by the Steelers as an undrafted free agent out of Bowie State, rushed for 410 yards and 2 touchdowns last season on 110 carries. He also caught 19 passes for 244 yards in addition.

Redman and fellow running back Jonathan Dwyer, who signed his one-year restricted tender several weeks ago, will now battle at training camp for roster spots.

The Steelers also have running back Baron Batch under contract for 2013 after he signed his exclusive rights tender and they are also expected to draft a running back next week during the 2013 NFL draft.

Good, we need the depth.. Redman had an admirable season and improved a lot in the passing game, he just needs to stay healthy

Might be his final season with the Steelers

It’s been a long time coming!

I think both these guys Redman and Dwyer are possibly gone next year. As far as Baron Batch…. he’s real lucky he’s a good SPECIAL Teamer! I guess Redman thought he would get a offer from another team..kinda Surprised he didn’t. That being said.. I hope they draft well at RB next week..John Clay GONE..Chris Rainey GONE..Batch Midas well be GONE also. This Draft has some studs Franklin from UCLA..Bell from Mich State..even that Taylor kid from Stanford

  • steeltown

Even if they draft a stud this year and draft another RB next year, they’ll still need more depth… I see one of them (Dwyer or Redman) being signed to a multi-yr deal after this season, my money is on Dwyer because he’s 4-5yrs younger

Dwyer is also a more versatile back. I agree that he is the most likely extension candidate. Plus, he signed his tender immediately as a sign to the Steelers, and it is a sign that they like to see.

  • steeltown

Agreed.. Dwyer only carried 156times last season (gained 620+yds) I don’t know exactly what the average carries per season for NFL RB’s is.. but lets say its 250carries.. at his avg per he’d a been at around 1,000yds on the season but with low TD production, but lets face it everyone not named Heath Miller had low TD production last year

what is the dead $ against the cap if they cut Redman or Dwyer before the regular season? (I’m guessing $0 since there is no signing bonus with the tender) If they can get Bell in the Draft, they don’t need 3 RB’s that are basically the same. I would like to see Bradshaw brought in for training camp and see who can win the roster spots. sign either Dwyer or Redman (whoever beats out the other) to a longer contract.

  • steeltown

Yes, but after displacement the savings are not the same.. it would probably save around 700-800K by cutting one tendered player

  • Future Steeler GM

Good for Redman, he’s by far the best back on the roster. Undervalued, underutilized and under appreciated! A guy with a an average of over 4yds per carry, who rarely fumbles and almost has no carries for a loss, still has to prove himself every year? What a joke. He pass protects all the time, can catch out of the backfield and gets all our short yardage with 2nd and 3rd efforts. This shouldn’t have even been a question. 200 carries and he’s a 1,000 yard back for us! The Steelers are playing mind games with this poor kid, because he a small school kid.

Sure we need a home run hitter who can run off tackle and tear past a secondary, but that’s not Dwyer or Batch. It’s a kid waiting in the draft, like Ball or Bernard. Lacy is not right for us, as good as he is.
