Report: Chargers Don\’t Appear Interested In Max Starks After Missing Out On Bryant McKinnie

According to Kevin Acee of the The San Diego Union-Tribune, the San Diego Chargers recently tried to sign tackle Bryant McKinnie, who just re-signed back with the Baltimore Ravens over the weekend, but have yet to reach out to Pittsburgh Steelers veteran free agent tackle Max Starks.

The Chargers, as Acee eludes to in his report, still have question marks at their left tackle position, but now appear to be set to try either King Dunlap or Kevin Haslam on the left side after missing out on McKinnie.

Being as the Chargers reportedly made a run at McKinnie, it makes you wonder why they wouldn\’t at least kick the tires on Starks, who played every offensive snap for the Steelers last season. While Starks\’ best years are likely far behind him, he is serviceable, and in my opinion, an upgrade over both Dunlap and Haslam.

Now that the draft is over, the next couple of weeks is when you would expect Starks to get serious offers, but as of right now there doesn\’t appear to be any teams interested in his services.

The longer that Starks remains unsigned, the better the chance becomes that he will return to Pittsburgh for one final season and even Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert stated recently that they haven\’t closed the door completely on him returning.

Should Starks indeed ultimately be brought back, he will add much needed depth at the tackle position that currently really only consists of second-year offensive lineman Kelvin Beachum.
