Report: Max Starks Visiting With Cardinals On Tuesday

According to Josina Anderson of ESPN on Twitter, free agent tackle Max Starks is visiting with the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday and she is told that he is already in the midst of taking his physical.

Starks, who played every offensive snap last season for the Pittsburgh Steelers, reportedly visited the San Diego Chargers last week, but left town without a deal.

Starks link to the Cardinals is an obvious one as former Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians is now the head coach there, and former Steelers offensive assistants Harold Goodwin and Larry Zierlein are also on the Cardinals coaching staff.

According to a recent interview with Starks, the Steelers reached out to their 2004 draft pick prior to them signing free agent tackle Guy Whimper last week and the Florida product took that signing as them officially moving on from him.

Starks stated in that same interview that he wanted a chance to compete for a starting job wherever he lands and that he believed he would sign somewhere prior to the start of OTA sessions beginning around the league.

About Dave Bryan

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.

This is not surprising… in fact, im more surprised AZ hasn’t already signed him

I hada feeling going into this offseason, after Arians signed as the Cardinals HC that Mendy, Starks and maybe even Legursky might all end up in AZ

Yup, it was only a matter of time before BA would bring him in. They definitely need the Line help to go along with that stud Guard Cooper they drafted.

Doesn’t take a genius to figure out this would be where he would most likely end up ie. BA + ex-Steelers Coaches+change from man to zone scheme for Steelers+Max’s slow feet+Levi Brown moving to RT.

If the blocking schemes had remained the same then it’s likely he would have been brought back but Max fits a zone blocking scheme about as well as Leftwich fits Haley’s quick timing offense.

I hope he ends up in AZ where he’ll likeley be able to play for another 2-3 years in BAs offense.

Arizona where all ex washed up Steelers go

Would be surprised if he leaves without a contract offer. He can still be effective, and even though he has trouble with his weight he shows up in shape for camp. By the way, would be nice to see more Josina! She’s come a long way since her on air gaffe a couple years ago.

I have been hoping Max would get signed some where.
He deserves to get paid more than the minimum.

I talk to her all the time via DM on Twitter. She will always have a spot in media because she has close contact with an unbelievable amount of players. She is still good for a scoop or two a month.

  • SteelerDave

I understand he has pride and still has some football left in him but is it worth it as a lineman to play into your mid 30′s? Max should retire, his body will thank him at age 50.

  • hergieburbur

    He’s a good fit there.

  • Jollyrob68

I thought they would of signed him by now

  • JohnnyV1

Based on the last few seasons, none of our lineman can start all 16 games, except Max Starks, so why would we want him back? Gilbert is been hurt since we drafted him. It’s very short-sighted to think Gilbert can make it through a whole season, and to think Mike Adams can handle the OLT spot w/o getting Ben killed is an unknown. That’s not good planning.

  • steeltown

Exactly, the only other dependable OL player is Ramon Foster and he doesn’t play LT… i’m concerned about Gilbert as well.. something tells me we’ll see Beachum receive some snaps at LT in training camp, he’s undersized but he played a ton there in college. If he can get stronger, he could be the ultimate utility OLineman

The Steelers appear desperate with the signing of Guy Whimper. Perhaps they were counting their chickens before they hatched.
