Saints Waive Former Steelers Practice Squad OL Ryan Lee On Monday

The New Orleans Saints made several roster moves on Monday and it included them waiving offensive lineman Ryan Lee, who the Pittsburgh Steelers originally signed as an undrafted free agent last April.

Although Lee only played late in preseason games last year, he showed enough promise that the Steelers signed him to their practice squad to start the season. He remained on the practice squad until late November, but was ultimately waived and thus claimed by the Saints.

Lee ended the 2012 season on the Saints injured reserve list after undergoing hernia surgery.

With the Steelers still currently lacking solid depth on the interior portion of their offensive line, it will be interesting to see if they claim the Furman product off of waivers now that he is available.

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.

    Please pick him up!

Release OG Hubbard or CB Justin King… and pick up Lee (if he’s healthy)

Would be awesome to see Lee, Embernate and Golic Jr all battling it out!

    +1

Pick Lee up!!! Would be interesting competition between Lee & “Ebernasty”!!!!!

Agree with others : cut a journeyman, reclaim Lee, and give him a chance to make the squad…

I’ve written before on this guy, thought we should have kept him. The Saints stole him when the Steelers had some injuries, used a groin injury to put him on IR and tuck him away. Now, to release him, seems odd. Odd like he’s got some injury, odd. We’ll see.

Can’t get too excited about a guy cut with a hernia

  • Michael Mazanowski

Oh he healthy! Drop Wimpey and pick him up!

  • Shannon Stephenson

    and thank you

  • Shannon Stephenson

problem is wimpy is a OT where we have no depth. Lee is a OG

  • SteelersDepot

His release has not come through on the transaction sheet as of yet. Will be looking to see if he was waived injured or not.

  • Michael Mazanowski

I understand that! BUT Wimpey should be handing out hot dogs in the stands, anyway! Plus Mike Farrell is going to be a better player than Wimpey!

  • Michael Mazanowski

    Max, Max, Max, Max!

  • SteelersDepot

Just so you know, transaction just came through and Lee was not waived injured.

  • Kevin Gobleck

I’ll say thank you when i’m reading that we picked him up!

Healthy, he will at the very least bring up the level of competition which is a win-win…now who to release?

  • steeltown

    Nice

  • Ahmad

Get him back! He was great in preseason last year.

I agree! Like Ebernasty, Lee’s strong suit is bullishness and attitude. I thought he outperformed Beachum in his limited opportunities during last year’s preseason, so I can only suppose the coaches saw the reverse in training camp practices and OTAs. I would like to see them give him another look.

  • Michael Mazanowski

He had surgery to correct the prob!
