Report: Steelers Rookie LB Jarvis Jones May Have Aggravated Hamstring Injury Suffered During His Pro Day

The Pittsburgh Steelers first OTA session of the 2013 season got underway on Tuesday, and it appears that first-round draft pick, linebacker Jarvis Jones, might have aggravated a hamstring injury that suffered during his March Pro Day, according to a Tuesday evening report by Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was asked about Jones following Tuesday\’s practice and of course he really didn\’t elaborate any in his response.

“He\’s capable of practicing, which he did,” said Tomlin. “Had a good day.”

David Todd of ESPN 970 Radio was at the Steelers practice on Tuesday and he told me that he did not see Jones at all, so make of that what you will. Todd also told that he did not see seventh-round draft pick defensive end Nick Williams work on Tuesday either and that he had some sort of wrap around his mid section. Tomlin, however, was not asked about the status of Williams.

You never like to hear about any player possibly missing time on the first day of OTA\’s with an injury, but at least it is still very early and it only appears that it might be a hamstring injury of some sorts that Jones is suffering from. We will just have to wait and see if he is able to get on the field over the course of the next few days.

As far as linebacker Sean Spence and tight end Heath Miller go, Tomlin was asked to update their rehab progress as well after practice.

“As of right now, they\’re on schedule and we\’re pleased at where they are, and we\’ll just continue to take it day by day,” said Tomlin. “When that day comes, it will be a good day.”

Neither Spence, nor Miller, both of whom are rehabbing serious knee injuries suffered last year, are expected to practice any during the off-season and both are expected to start training camp on the Active PUP list. Spence isn\’t expected to play at all this season, while the hope for Miller, who was reportedly looking good and moving around without a limp on Tuesday, is that he will be ready for the start of the season.

Pee Wee, you might write worse than I do. Are you drinking?

  • Maybe he wants his contract done first…we all know how 1st rounder player agents can be sometimes. The Nick Williams injury sounds a little disappointing though.

  • Stephen Dale

maybe it was Jones’s spinal stenosis bothering him…..

  • WilliamSekinger

You mean the spinal stenosis he doesn’t have? That spinal stenosis??

  • JC

Im sure this isn’t serious and if could be his agent telling him to hold off until a contract is done. However, I must admit that of all the daft picks Jones makes me the most nervous. There were so many different opinions around the league about Jones coming into the draft that I’m not sure what to think about this guy. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Are you the heckler of this website? Every time I see your name and creepy picture it’s followed by some sort of negative comment. It must be nice to be perfect …

Oh my, the dreaded hamstring issue biting already!

  • dgh57

Maybe he’s actually the real Pee Wee Herman!!! That would explain it!!!

    Just kidding!!!

  • David Edward

Have to keep an eye on Jarvis and the hammy. Hope they don’t have another issue like they did with Woodley. Jones, of course, wasn’t known for being a big workout guy so this is one of the concerns I had when they drafted him.

  • Nolrog

I did read that, but I also read that JJ was working out wih Tom Shaw, which kind of contradicts that. So I’m not sure what to believe.

  • steeltown

I think we need to all relax, first day of OTA’s… now, if he misses all the OTA’s then I’ll start questioning what’s really going on

  • steeltown

Yea.. but its the 1st day… and we know already that Nicholas has almost no chance of playing this season anyway.. still, hope he gets out there soon
