Steelers P Brian Moorman Contract Details

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed veteran punter Brian Moorman to their 90 man roster on Tuesday and the details of the contract are now in.

Moorman signed a one-year qualifying contract with a base salary of $940,000 and the deal included no signing bonus. Being as it was a qualifying contract, the cap charge for Moorman will be $555,000.

Thanks to displacement in the Rule of 51, the signing of Moorman only used up $75,000 in additional cap space. This leaves the Steelers with approximately $392,427.00 in cap room until June when at that time they will get an additional $5 million plus in cap space once the release of Willie Colon comes off of the books.

Moorman is expected to push Steelers second-year punter Drew Butler in training camp.

Butler has to improve. Hope Moorman can push him in training camps and if he doesn’t respond, keep Moorman instead of Butler.

I like the competition.. and I like the experience that he brings.. but lets just hope he can teach Butler a thing or two and give him a little competition in camp because in the end, I do not want to release a 23yr old up and coming player for a 37yr old who is nearing the end

    Yep

  • Matt Lipner

I definitely agree, but will Butler prove that he deserves to be the starter? Moorman may be better than Butler now

Moorman is by no means your 37 year old ‘man on the street”…..He hasn’t “dropped off” -that was just garbage that his last Buffalo coach spread:) He may not be as fast as his national championship average in college – but he will still be faster (if he gets to run fakes) than most of the players on the Steelers. Also, he has thrown for two touchdowns at Buff. This is a great signing:)
