Ike Taylor Has Top Of The Steelers Cornerback Depth Chart Training With Tom Shaw

Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor has long been a supporter of renowned trainer Tom Shaw and has now convinced nearly all of his fellow cornerback teammates to train this offseason with him down in Orlando at the Wide World of Sports facility.

Not only has fellow cornerback William Gay and third-year cornerback Cortez Allen made training with Taylor part of their offseason regime, but Taylor said Tuesday on Trib Live Radio that young cornerbacks Curtis Brown and DeMarcus Van Dyke are also scheduled to begin training under the watchful eye of Shaw over the course of the next two weeks. If you are scoring at home, that\'s five of the nine cornerbacks that are on the Steelers 90 man roster and the entire top of the depth chart.

"We have no choice," said Taylor. "This is our job; this is our livelihood. This is what we do. We have family, friends, teammates, fans, owners; that\'s a lot of people depending on us. That\'s how I look at it. So there\'re a lot of people depending on me to do what I do for as far as football wise, so I got to prepare myself to be in the best shape physically and mentally for this upcoming season and everybody who\'s down here training, I try to install that in them too. \'This is bigger than what you think it is. If you think, this is big, times that by ten and that\'s how big what we about to do for this 2013 season.\'"

In addition to the aforementioned cornerbacks, Taylor also said that rookie linebackers Jarvis Jones and Vince Williams are also down in Orlando training with Shaw and there is a possibility that wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders might join the group as well.

Taylor, who is currently back home in New Orleans this weekend hosting his 10th annual Face Me Ike Football Camp at the Arden Cahill Academy in Gretna, has long been one of the hardest working Steelers players during the offseason and it\'s good top see that several of the young players are using him as a role model when it comes to training with Shaw.

About Dave Bryan

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.

    Awesome!!!
I knew Ike, Cortez and Willie all train with Shaw but good to hear C.Brown is as well.. and REALLY good to hear that Jarvis and Vince are too! I know Hawthorne is rehabbing, but I hope he also decides to train with Shaw in the offseasons

Man if Vince Williams can make the Team I’ll be a happy guy, especially hearing now that he is already following in Farrior’s footsteps by training with Shaw in the offseason.. hope he can become that BUCK LB of the future

  • VaDave

Awesome!! Don’t look now, but this comes under the heading of “Leadership”, that according to so many posts from the Steeler Nation, over the last couple of months, is non-existent…. Way to go Ike!

  • Kolie Oak

For me personally I’m now more than ever convinced that Lamarr should of taken Shaw up on his invite.
Lamarr I hope in 5-6 months I’m eating my words..

  • Kevin Gobleck

There is a reason he rarely ges hurt, he really needs to have a heart to heart conversation with woodley

  • RMSteeler

Now, if only someone could convince the O-line to participate…..

  • RMSteeler

I like Ike. Maybe he’ll follow in Carnell Lake’s footsteps someday.

  • Shea Fahr

Was having kind of a crappy week until I read this. This is the BEST news of the week!

  • cencalsteeler

It’s a blessing that Ike’s approach is rubbing off on other players. It will become infectious throughout the locker room and the team will become better because of it.

  • Reg Sayhitodabadguy Hunt

Great I wish the whole team would work out with ike an tom Shaw then they all can push each other develop team comradery and here’s the good part all come into camp in shape an hopefully will help limit injuries there I said it I know each group have different parts to condition but Mr Shaw is a professional he’llknow who needs to work on what

  • Reg Sayhitodabadguy Hunt

I like the fact that they are working out together and I wish to and shamarko would also join the rest of the secondary an when ike decides to retire maybe he can become our strength and cons. coach he would be a tremendous improvement

  • VaDave

I’ve printed more than a few negative posts about Woodley, but honestly, I’ll gladly help you eat some of that crow if he turns it up a notch.

  • charles

    Third that.

  • charles

Part of the reason that AB got most of Wallace’ money was because he came into camp his second year in ironman condition

  • hergieburbur

I think V. Williams makes the team, just don’t know how much he plays any time soon.

  • steves

There are many places that work people out and into shape. A few years ago I remember watching Ike and others working out with Shaw, but even Ike got hurt last year and missed a few games.
After “Dancing with the Stars” a few football players said they were in their best shape ever.
Football is different. Playing football is a different kind of shape and there is nothing in a workout as in football 2 a days.

  • steves

You can lead a Horse to Water, but you can’t make him drink!!!!

  • Rob

From the numbers on Jones draft workouts he is almost a lock to be most improved, nice to see Ike leading and these guys following. I also remember that a few of the players were working out with another trainer in Arizona someplace, so just maybe we will see a bunch of highly improved players this year from a conditioning and speed aspect.

As to Woodly I don’t think it was leading him to water and him drinking that was the problem, somebody was leading him to food and it did not look like they had to make him eat.

  • SteelersNick

Great news. We really need Cortez Allen to step up and have a big season. Its good to hear that Curtis Brown is trying something different. Curtis Brown and Stevenson Sylvester have been huge disappointments and could both be released. Both of these players need to show something this year or it will be their last in Pittsburgh.

  • SteelersNick

I agree with what all of you are saying about Lamarr Woodley. He needs to play at 255-260 lbs. Last season I am positive he was pushing 275 lbs. While I love the Pittsburgh steelers and I don’t want to sound disloyal, Woodley looks fat again in camp. I am really worried about Woodley and I hope he proves me wrong.

  • steves

Momma cookin was too good to pass up and he couldn’t put the fork down after going for 2nd’s and 3rd’s. (HA HA)

  • Ahmad

Looks like Tomlin’s message of conditioning is hitting home and i commend Taylor for taking the DB’s and others under his wing. Hey might as well take the whole team to go train with Shaw.

  • Kolie Oak

With Lamarr his story is different, everybody knew and seen his recent lack of production. I believe if he really cared he would of recognized this was an awesome opportunity to show the naysayers he’s serious about his conditioning
