With second-year tackle Mike Adams currently recovering from stab wounds suffered early Saturday morning on the South Side in an attempted carjacking, several Pittsburgh Steelers players are being asked to comment about the incident and veteran inside linebacker Larry Foote was asked to give his thoughts Tuesday after practice.
“Well you know; bad people come out late at night,” said Foote, who claims the only time he goes out late at night these days is to get a gallon of milk. “I mean that\’s just the rules of the game and the guys just got to be aware of that.”
Foote, however, was once young himself and was arrested in 2003 as a second-year player after an early-morning melee involving 20 to 30 people outside a pizza restaurant near the University of Michigan campus. Although a misdemeanor charge against Foote was eventually dropped, he was asked about that incident on Thursday.
“The night life, being young and going out, sometimes you can be at the wrong place at the wrong time,” said Foote. “So, my advice to everybody would be to get prayed up, and the Good Lord will take care of you.\'”
Pittsburgh police said Adams told officers he was standing near his truck shortly after 3 a.m. ET on Saturday when he was confronted by three men, one armed with a handgun knife and one armed with a knife. After Adams told his attackers that he didn\’t have his truck keys the situation escalated quickly and resulted in one man pointing the gun at his face while the other stabbed him twice before fleeing the scene.
Adams was expected to be released from the hospital on Tuesday and since the incident occurred, the police have arrested two men connected with the stabbing with a third arrest expected soon.
Foote is right on the money with his advice, and I have a feeling that as a team leader he will be giving more advice to his teammates about trying not to be in the wrong place.
