Steelers T Mike Adams Sends Out Post Surgery Picture Following Stabbing

Pittsburgh Steelers right tackle Mike Adams, who was stabbed in the stomach early Saturday morning during an attempted robbery of his truck, has now posted a picture of himself laying in a hospital bed following surgery. Adams appears to have two pretty good size bandages on his mid-section and early reports suggest he will be sidelined until the start of training camp.

Luckily for Adams, no vital organs were affected, but being as the injury needed surgery to repair, you have to wonder how much lifting and training he will be able to do over the course of the next eight weeks and as a result, what kind of shape he\’ll be in when the team reports to Latrobe.

I\’m certainly not a doctor, but hopefully after five weeks or so Adams can get back in the weight room which would give him three weeks worth of training time to build up whatever strength he may have lost during his inactivity. However, it will not be totally surprising if he starts training camp off on the Active PUP list just as a precaution.

While the stabbing injury is unfortunate, at least it happened now instead of closer to the start of training camp. In the meantime, the Steelers will have to make through their remaining OTA session and mandatory mini camp without the services of their starting right tackle.

I recently had spent a full month in a hospital for broncial illness. I was in the same type of bed as Adams; he’s 6’7″ and I’m 5’7″… his heels must be dangling outside the edge.

Good to see he’s well enough to go on Twitter. See you in Latrobe, big guy.

Hope he has a speedy recovery… The Steelers may be rethinking their decision to let Max Starks walk because this young offensive line has the worst luck with injuries.

  • steeltown

I know.. obviously cant predict tragic events like these, but damn

  • Christopher Wilkes

Steelers are dumb. They shoulda resigned Max. At least it gives someone an opportunity to step up and get some practice time in, I guess. Guy Whimper? This blows!

  • zyzak

When it comes to O linemen the Steelers are cursed

  • Ahmad

He will certainly be in my prayers. Now the question is who will start on place of Adams until he’s healthy? My best guess is that Beachum will get the first crack.

  • steeltown

Its hard to say.. its so early in the offseason they may just stick with Beachum at Center (for now) and let Whimper and/or the young guys Farrell/Golic Jr. play RT through this weeks OTA’s and into minicamps. Atleast that way they’ll get a chance to see Whimper or one of the young guys with the 1st Team

He had, based on his incision, an ex-lap – exploratory laparotomy. Opened his belly from stem to stern and ran through his bowels to look for injuries. Without any complications, six weeks is optimistic for this to heal. Imagine having your abdominal muscles sliced in half. That needs to heal back and carries a risk of dehiscence if they move him too fast. Will be lucky for us and him if he’s not PUP…

  • Steve

Thanks for the info Doc. Hopefully he pulls through this and has no complications. He will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Are you a real doctor, doctor?

  • Steve

In 2006 Ben had a motorcycle accident then an appendectomy which caused him to rightly have an off year.

  • Mike Sweeney

that’s crazy guys….fast and speedy recovery big Mike.

  • DoctorNoah

    Yep. I’m an Orthopaedic surgeon.
